The 2021 Ram Rebel TRX Makes Its Debut

Written By, Jordan R

It finally happened! After years of waiting and teased information, the all-new 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX has made its official debut, and it sure is a glorious sight. With so many upgrades and enhancements, the Ram TRX has officially cemented Ram Trucks as the North America off-road truck leader, further expanding the light-duty pickup truck like never before. There’s just so much to cover about this wonderous beast, that we’re going to try to break it down into bite-size chunks for all you truck lovers, starting with horsepower and off-road performance.

Performance

Powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 engine, typically known as a Hellcat engine in other parts of the woods, this baby is able to generate 702 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Tied to a high-torque-capacity TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, the Ram TRX is one pickup truck you can take to the racetrack to burn some real rubber. Able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and can run a quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds at 108 mph, the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX has a top speed of 118 mph. Drivers will enjoy using the well-known Performance Pages app for this.

When it comes to going off-road, the Ram TRX is pushing the limits with a ground clearance of 11.8 inches thanks to a 2-inch ride height increase and 35-inch tires. Equipped with a new BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case, the TRX can power through any off-road obstruction or weather condition, modified with upgraded internals for improved strength and durability. Heck, the Ram Rebel TRX can even be classified as a rock-crawling warrior, featuring a low range of 2.64:1 for rock crawling and flat-towing when put in neutral.

There are also multiple driving modes and settings for handling any type of road or weather conditions when on the road. One is behind the steering wheel, a new Drive Mode selector that can switch between Normal, Wet/Snow, Off-road, and Baja. For a more customized feel for meeting the driver’s style, there are five dynamic modes available – Auto, Sport, Tow, Snow, and Custom for complete customization of the vehicle’s performance. On top of this, there are three dynamic off-road modes – Mud/Sand, Rock, and Baja for different off-road conditions and terrain.

Style

A pickup truck with this kind of power needs to look good, and the Ram TRX delivers with a wider figure by about eight inches, with six inches added to the track width with composite flares and fender wells. Those 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory 325/65/R18 All-Terrain tires are available with 18-inch beadlock-ready wheels, and a menacing front fascia screams SRT Hellcat with a hood scoop that can account for 50-percent of air entering the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 engine, with the other half entering through the grille. Bright LED clearance lights have been built into the scoop and all-black premium LED headlamps with twin bi-functional projector headlamps are met with a unique front grille, hood, skid plates, steel bumpers, tow hooks, and new RAM badges. In the rear, the Ram TRX sports LED tail lamps in the back, tow hooks, and an integrated 5-inch dual exhaust ports.

Inside the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX is another slice of paradise with premium textures, colors and material, and available hand-wrapped leather instrument panels for a high-class feel no other truck can deliver. With multiple trims, consumers have many options, starting with three cabin trims - (1) premium cloth and vinyl, (2) premium wrapped leather and suede, or (3) premium wrapped leather and suede with available red and carbon fiber accents. Going further, the TR1 and TR2 Equipment Groups of the Ram 1500 Rebel are also available on the TRX, able to make such additions like heated and ventilated premium Natura Plus leather with perforated suede accents cover the front bucket and rear bench seats. A new SRT-signature flat-bottom steering wheel, wrapped in leather and designed with enhanced hand grips comes equipped with the integrated aluminum paddle shifters mentioned earlier for switching between driving modes.

Technology

Ram Trucks has really stepped it up in technology in recent years, and the 2021 Ram Rebel TRX gets to live up the glory. Starting with a Uconnect 4C NAV 12-inch fully configurable touchscreen, the Ram TRX comes with SiriusXM with 360L, Personalized Stations Powered by Pandora, smartphone integration, and a class-exclusive 900-watt premium Harman Kardon audio system with 19 speakers and 10-inch subwoofer. In addition to Performance Pages, that can show recorded times (like 0-60 mph elapsed time), g-force, gauges and engine performance, Off-Road Pages offers consumers information ride height, the transfer case’s position, the pitch and roll of the vehicle, and accessory gauges.

Safety and Warranty

The 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX offers several advanced safety features, including Blind-spot Monitoring, adaptive cruise control, Ready Alert Braking and Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus. A standard three-year/36,000-mile Basic Limited Warranty provides bumper-to-bumper coverage warranty comes with the Ram TRX, in addition to a five-year/60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty that covers engine, transmission and drive system. Currently being manufactured at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan, orders will soon be ready.
