Dodge Will Keep Street Racing Technology Going With Stellantis

Written By, Brad R

As we get deeper into 2021, all eyes are on the Dodge brand for what they will do with the upcoming 2022 Dodge Challenger muscle car. We've observed initial rumors that the future of the most influential V8 engines is likely to decrease down in support of electric vehicles. Of course, Dodge won't aim to slow its formidable ambition to remain faithful to its brand. The muscle car will live on, but with all the undertaking Stellantis has placed on changing its brand, we are curious where Dodge heads next. Particularly with its Street Racing Technology (SRT) brand, what will it become? FCA and PSA Groupe formed to produce Stellantis, the world's fourth-largest automotive company and among the big changes comes in the way they will build new vehicles. While Stellantis has revealed they will remain committed to the Dodge brand, it might not all be the news some expected.

The Change Will Come

The most striking change will be how Dodge goes to combine electric vehicle technology to its muscle car lineup. What will proceed to the V8 engine-powered muscle cars we know and love? Owners expect to have the same heart-racing power offered by the SRT brand, but we now understand there will no longer be a focus on the SRT mission. This announcement concerning the process was revealed to MotorTrend and serves as a sign of the times regarding the transformation the automotive industry is taking as a whole. This move signs a shift that will be felt for decades to come.

“These products have delighted enthusiasts for nearly two decades, and Stellantis will continue to sell and develop the next generation of Dodge/SRT-branded vehicles, as well as Jeep and Ram vehicles that [utilize] high-performance SRT technology,” Stellantis said in a statement.

The SRT Trims Will Remain

What this means is the SRT trims and its unique brand of badges and style will be retained. The bad news is the SRT brand is not going to have the same focus as those behind the scenes will have new designs to handle. The great news is the boss of the Stellantis brand, Carlos Tavares, has recently said that the performance vehicles like the 2021 Dodge Challenger and 2021 Dodge Charger are here to stay. The enjoyment of the SRT brand like what is found in the SRT Hellcat trims will also still remain.

“What Hellcat has done is way beyond what our initial expectations were because it’s way beyond what a traditional, very high-end trim does,” Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Dodge

Dodge moved over 50,000 Hellcat trims, including the SRT Hellcat Redeye, in just the last half-decade alone. Considering the cost of any SRT Hellcat begins around $60,000 MSRP, that is quite a feat. Heart Racing performance will still come, find out all the latest details concerning the upcoming 2022 Charger and 2022 Challenger soon to come later in 2021 to NowCar
