Wow, we were just talking about Alfa Romeo and how the automaker was celebrating its 100 Year Anniversary in the business in 2020 last week. A strong automotive brand under the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) umbrella, Alfa Romeo may be best known here in the states for the one and only Stelvio. Another well-known model was the Alfa Romeo Giulia, a vehicle that contended for popularity in the 1990s but had a strong background as the automaker’s rise in the industry, powered by a 532-horsepower 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. To continue the celebration, like all automakers, Alfa Romeo has a little marketing campaign starting up, focused on the control Alfa Romeo vehicles give consumers, especially the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio.
Don’t try this at home, kiddos. What you’re seeing is a video of choreographed stunts performed by the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio driven by professionals. Using long-exposure video, the film was able to capture light trail visuals left by the taillights of each vehicle to illustrate one of three designs – the iconic front grille; a clover emblem, also known as the Quadrifoglio badge to pay homage to Alfa Romeo racing days with the 1923 Targa Florio; and the dragon on the automaker’s emblem, the coat of arms of the Visconti family, an icon of Milan, homeland of Alfa Romeo.
“For Alfa Romeo, the driver is always at the center…This driver-centered focus, highlighted by the new campaign, is enhanced by Alfa Romeo's updated cockpits featuring premium appointments, a standard 8.8-inch center touchscreen display, state-of-the-art connectivity and available level II autonomous driving capability, offering our customers more options, 'control' and an exhilarating driving experience.” - Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America
To some smooth tunes by Emmit Fenn, the song “Control” plays as the trailer above creates these stunning visuals. Set to broadcast on select cable television networks, digital streaming, and online video placements, this video was created in partnership with GSD&M. Actor Alexander Skarsgård offers a voice over to focus on the level of control these two vehicles must be able to offer to perform such stunts – they’re definitely more intricate than the traffic cone tests at driving school.
Aside from the level of control the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio may offer drivers, the new ad spot also does well to highlight the new cockpit of the vehicles, starting with an engine press start-stop button integrated into the steering wheel, showcasing automatic transmission with manual override, the race drive mode setting, and Performance Pages to monitor and customize various vehicle settings. For 2020, both the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio get some modern upgrades and some real nice interior and technology upgrades that make the driver feel, well, in control.
Both luxury vehicles, a Standard Luxury Car (Giulia) and a Standard Luxury Crossover SUV (Stelvio), were named during AutoPacific’s 2020 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, sweeping up the floor along with other FCA automaker names Chrysler with the 300 and Pacifica, Ram with the 1500 pickup truck, and Dodge with the famous muscle car, the Challenger.
