The Iconic Toy Car Has Grown Up

Written By, NowCar Team

When you make the decision to purchase a new car, heading to a dealership can feel so, limiting. Sure, they have a lot of cars on their lot, and you even like a few of them. But the exterior color isn’t what you were hoping for, and the price doesn’t match all of the extras you expected to get.

Instead of settling for a car that you don’t actually love, why not buy new cars online, where you can search and find ANYTHING your heart desires? We don’t say this lightly, either. There is literally a car for everyone online - sometimes all it takes is a simple Google search.

The Toy Car Has Grown Up

Remember that red and yellow “Flintstone” style car you played with as a kid? You and your siblings piled in, rode on the roof, and propelled that sucker with your feet surprisingly fast. Maybe you even have kids now who ride the updated version of that same car (which, by the way, is a lot better with an actual removable floorboard for pushing someone around in. No more scabbed ankles. Genius).

Whatever your memory or current experience is with the “Cozy Coupe,” the Little Tykes toy car has grown up in a way that no one has actually expected - and if you have to be driving down a British highway, you might see it whizzing by at 30 miles per hour.

Relive Your Childhood

A mechanic and his brother set out to recreate a piece of their past, by designing and making a real-life road legal version of the classic children’s toy. It took the two men 16 weeks to make and used a Daewoo Maitz as its starting point.

The result? A fully road-legal replica of the red and yellow car, that does not require running down while sitting, to operate. With just 5,000 miles on the odometer, the brother’s are selling their creation on Ebay for just $33,264.

John Bitmead was the lead mechanic who helped create the car and said that “We have covered over 5,000 miles in the past two years driving around shows and charity events in the UK. And apart from it not being the fastest car on the planet has been the most incredible fun with people queuing up to take photos along dual carriageways and highways on every trip.”

Guaranteed to create smiles wherever it goes, this is one car that you certainly would never find in a dealership, and it can be YOURS!
