The First-Ever GMC Hummer EV Will Be Unlike Any Vehicle On the Road Today

Written By, Brad R

GMC has reinvented the well-known Hummer in 2020 to become an all-new EV. While the original Hummer was anything but fuel-efficient, that won't be a problem for the upcoming Hummer. It's a far cry from its 8 mpg rating given in the original Hummer that debuted two decades ago. GMC is no stranger to creating vehicles that stand out and lends itself towards making bold impressions. Recall that GMC was the originator of the famed Wrangler. Long before the Jeep brand took the Wrangler model, it belonged to GMC. The GMC Wrangler was used up till 1987 with variations that offer gas, diesel, and even a propane model. Of course, the GMC Hummer will be better than any of those vehicles since it will be an electric vehicle.

The Future of the Electric Side of the Hummer

While GMC has been teasing all the specs of the Hummer EV, it should begin production in about a year during the fall of 2021. The GMC Hummer EV has not opened the books for sales and won't till next summer, but we can already tell the intrigue will only continue to grow for this vehicle. It's been over a decade since the last Hummer was put into production. The Coronavirus pushed back its debut, but we're sure the vehicle will only gain more steam in the eyes of buyers. According to one General Motors spokesperson, "Its production timing remains on track and on schedule" in regard to the new schedule created.

1,000 Horsepower Hummer With How Much Torque?!

The electric Hummer, while it has not been fully-shown, has the appearance of the Hummer H2. GMC has confirmed the vehicle will contain about 1,000 horsepower with the ability to tow 11,000 pounds, plus offer a wicked-fast 0-to-60 mph time of just 3 seconds. This would be a remarkable vehicle for any brand but might help GMC rise above rival brands. With the upcoming Ford Bronco coming, the GMC Hummer EV will have its hands full to try and finish at the top spot. General Motors is said to have created new ultium batteries with a range of 400 miles and the next version of the GM's Super Cruise driver-assistance tech, which will provide hands-free driving on certain pre-mapped roads in the United States.  The rumor is the vehicle will cost around $70,000 MSRP.
