The 4 Best New Sports Cars for the 2016 Model Year

Written By, NowCar Team

2016 Chevrolet Camaro

Ready to buy a new car onlineIt's the cutting-edge way to purchase a car without pulling your hair out.

How about a sports car? You know you've always wanted one and what could be easier than purchasing your dream car online and having it delivered right to your door?

What's more, the 2016 model year promises to deliver some real gems. Take a look at this sparkling bevy of beauties…

The 2016 Chevy Camaro: One Elegant Equine-Eater

For those of you who don't know or who have been living under a rock for the past decade or so, Chevy executives notoriously defined the undefinable term "camaro," as a fearsome beast that eats Mustangs.

A phrase held over from the 1960s pony wars between Chevy and Ford, the nickname proved to have some sticking power and the roar of a Camaro continues to inspire fear in the hearts of horses everywhere.

For 2016, you can decide exactly how you want to spread that fear with three potent powertrain possibilities. The 2.0-liter Turbo engine gets 275 horsepower with 295 lb.-ft. of torque, while the 3.6-liter V6 offers 335 horsepower with 284 lb.-ft. of torque with a Direct Injection Variable Valve Timing eight-speed automatic transmission.

But if you really feel the need for speed, then the 6.2-liter V8 is your engine. A Camaro outfitted with this drivetrain is the most powerful SS ever, generating 455 horsepower with 455 lb.-ft. of torque.

Why would you opt for anything less than the most powerful? If, for some reason you feel like putting a halt to the fun, this 2016 Camaro is available with Brembo brakes for the first time ever.

No matter which engine you choose, all Camaros come standard with aluminum wheels. For me, the most exciting part of this upcoming lineup is the convertible.

The 2016 Camaro convertible features a one-hundred percent electronic convertible top, which is lowered at the touch of a key fob or button on the overhead console. You don't even have to stop to operate this marvelous mechanism. Drop the top while driving at speeds of up to thirty miles per hour. Convenience on the go. I like it.

Official pricing has yet to be released, but this Camaro is worth every penny.

The 2016 Mustang GT350: Beat It, Black Beauty!

This pony has got some serious muscle. Outfitted with a 5.2-liter V8 engine, this car gallops past the Camaro (phew! That was a close one.) backed by 526 of its buddies and 429 lb.-ft. of torque.

Standard features include a six-speed manual transmission and Torsen rear differential. Equipped with massive brakes, the 2016 Mustang GT350 operates with Magnetic Ride Control for precise handling.

If you prefer to ride solo because carpooling isn't really your speed, check out the 350R option, which comes without rear seats of any kind and sits pretty as a picture atop carbon-fiber wheels.

Auto industry experts are already projecting that the 2016 Mustang will protect its prime spot as the number one sports car over these competitors. Initial MSRP starts at $48,695.

I might just have to make my lifelong dream of owning a pony come true since Santa routinely fell down on that job.

The 2016 Miata: You Deserve a Reward

Seriously. Miata means "reward" in Old German and while I might not understand another word of that language, I am certainly picking up what the 2016 Miata is putting down.

Nothing is lost in translation on the new Miata, the 2016 MX-5 Miata, to be exact. Operated by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the Miata zips along at 155 horsepower with 148 lb.-ft. of torque.

Fuel efficiency, not usually something we highlight or even care about with respect to sports cars, is actually quite impressive on this little performance machine, which boasts a fuel economy estimated at 27 city and 36 highway miles per gallon.

The Miata has always been a small sports car, even as its competitors have grown and continue to grow.

Small and sweet, the amazing thing about this tiny treasure is that, despite its size, it feels roomy and comfortable.

Priced just under $25,000, this MX-5 Miata makes it easy to reward yourself. Go on…you know you deserve it.

The 2016 Viper ACR: Fanged and Fearless

Last, but certainly not least, particularly with respect to price. In fact, the 2016 Viper ACR is the most expensive car in this fearsome foursome. It's silly expensive, starting around $86,990.

Silly, until you realize that this track-tested sportster is also a street legal snake. Are you ready for this? Street legal…ha! On what street would you ever drive this monster? Main Street, USA?

Hardly.

Get yourself to a track and let the Viper's 8.4-liter V10 engine uncoil and strike. And strike it will, at 645 horsepower with 600 lb.-ft. of torque. The Viper's Tremec TR6060 engine is operated by a six-speed manual transmission.

Not enough fun?

Well, how about adding the optional Extreme Aero package, which includes an ginormous adjustable dual-element rear wing, four dive planes, half a dozen removable diffuser stakes, removable brake ducts, and a removable front splitter extension, as well as hood louvers that you can pop out to reduce the amount of air pressure in the wheel wells.

While you might expect scales from a snake, the interior of this creature is actually covered in faux-suede with light carpeting on the floors and in the trunk. With the 2016 Viper ACR, you're looking at one swanky serpent.

Ship Yourself a Sports Car!

Unless you're as indecisive as I am (actually, I really just want one of each), then you've probably figured out which one of these stunning sports cars is your favorite. If not, snap it up!

The 2016 fleet will arrive in showrooms before you know it. Of course, you won't have to vie for attention from the sales team or haggle with pushy associates over prices and particulars. And whatever you choose will be delivered right to your door.

Buy your new car online and enjoy the perks of guaranteed hassle-free car shopping, which will make that new sports car of yours even dreamier.
