Renewable Energy Is Helping Vehicles Like the F-150 Lighting Reduce Emissions

Written By, Brad R

As the automotive world is looking to offer their first electric vehicles for many brands, the latest all-new EV is ready to debut for Ford. The first-ever entirely pickup, the 2022 F-150 Lightning, has already gathered a wide variety of supporters. A recent report from the Detroit Free Press has mentioned the all-new electric truck has gathered an impressive 100,000 reservations for customers. While many of those orders are made by Ford loyalists, plenty of new buyers are happy with the all-electric efforts offered by Ford. The price tag is surely attractive to a large percentage of shoppers as well as the Ford brand is used to massive orders. In 2020, the Ford F-Series moved 787,372 vehicles in just one year. The total listed includes F-150s and Super Duty models; this is the same bracket that will be included with the all-new Lighting pickup.

Renewed Energy The Driving Force of the Lighting

The expectation for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lighting is to see its revamped Lighting nameplate offer more than ever before. This is the first time the pickup is electric with a 0.46 kilowatt-hours per mile to 0.50 kwh per mile or between 2.0 and 2.2 miles per kwh. This marks way improved measures over the gasoline F-150 counterpart. The Lighting is going to offer a cleaner experience over the lifetime of the vehicle according to Ford. The grid its charged with is in the process of being switched from fossil fuels to renewable energy. The use of coal in the electricity generation has slowed down as renewable energy has instead increased. In 2021, all but 3% of Americans live in an area where driving an EV produces less than 50-mpg than a gasoline car, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS).

"For over 70% of the population in the United States, driving the electric version of this vehicle should produce less than half the global warming emissions of the gasoline model," David Reichmuth, senior engineer for the UCS Clean Transportation Program

The rich future of the Ford brand will include a wide variety of pickups, including this new venture of EVs that will be awaiting buyers. The expectation for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lighting is around a cost of $40,000 MSRP and 230 miles of travel off a single charge.
