We were all sad to see the discontinuation of the Ram 1500 TRX. A play on the name for the top of the food chain 65 million years ago, the Tyrannosaurus rex was the apex predator of the pickup truck segment., This was a direct response to a certain competitor with a raptor for a nameplate. Now gone, who will take over as the reigning champion? Fierce in the jungle with a horn on its head, Ram introduces the new 2025 Jeep 1500 RHO, or RHinO. Inspired by the 1500 TRX, expect to find performance in this truck we used to only dream about.
Now that was some commercial. It almost felt like one of those Fast and the Furious moments, but the acting was a little dramatic or cheesy at times. Then we get to see the Jeep RHO in action, and wow. We did not know the Ram could get airborne and live to see the day, but that 1500 RHO handled it like a champ. Just look at it soaring through the air with a more sinister fascia than its predecessors. Built with a wide-body and fender flares, the RAM badge is blacked out across the grille, and LED headlights, steel bumpers, oversized tow hooks, and skid plates bring it all together. This isn’t your usual Ram pickup truck.
A new pattern in Stellantis is designing two versions of the same engine – Standard Output (S.O.) and High Output (H.O.) is the new way things are going to go. A sort of “multi-powertrain”, Stellantis and Ram decided to go with an H.O. twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, a part of the new Hurricane engine family. Capable of producing 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque, able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and able to run a quarter-mile in 13.1 seconds at 105 mph, this pickup truck is one for the record books. If you look closely at the ad when the motorbikes join in, one of the nameplates has the number “540” on it, and the blank motorbike has some of the Jeep community talking.
Jeff Summers, head of advertising at Ram, mentioned the bike without numbers is a “placeholder” for Ram’s next high horsepower vehicle, also said to be denoted with three letters. Some hopeful Ram consumers think the TRX is just playing dead, but we kind of doubt it. Made for high performance and off-road action, the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO comes equipped with a long-travel suspension with forged aluminum front control arms, adaptive Bilstein dampers, a BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case, Dana 60 rear axle with full-floating axle shafts, a rear electronic differential, and an axle hop damper to handle tough trails. Able to provide a low range of 2.64:1, the RHO has an approach angle of 31 degrees, a breakover angle of 22 degrees, a departure angle of 25 degrees, and a total ground clearance up to 11.8 inches. The 1500 RHO can even tackle water fording up to a depth of 32 inches!
Just, wow. Let’s also talk about that interior. Set up with 12-way power-adjustable leather front seats with heating, ventilation, and available massaging functions, the cockpit gets a lot more digital. More than 30 inches of combined screens - standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, available 14.5-inch vertically oriented touchscreen, and a 10-inch front passenger screen, and that’s not tall. Consumers can also opt-in for the RHO Equipment package to add a 360-degree camera system, a digital rearview mirror, dual wireless charging pads, massaging front seats, heated and ventilated rear outboard seats, a head-up display, power-adjustable pedals with memory settings, and a 19-speaker 900-watt Harman Kardon stereo system to their 2025 Ram 1500 RHO.
