Now You Can Buy an EV and the Charger Online with Kia

Written By, Jordan R

Kia Motors has been doing some interesting things lately to connect with a younger generation. It’s a smart move – the current demographic of the auto market is quickly changing, with Millennials starting to take over and soon the introduction of Gen Z. Both generations grew up on technology, spend time on more mobile sites than desktop sites, and like the convenience of online shopping. Taking a note, Kia Motors America (KMA) has announced a partnership with Amazon to provide consumers with the option to order and schedule the installation of a home charger for their very own alternative fuel vehicle.

Available through the new portal, Charge my Kia (amzn.to/2TQnuf5), consumers are shown a couple of the models this option is available. There’s the Kia Optima PHEV (or Plug-in Hybrid) model, the Kia Niro PHEV, and the Kia Soul EV. Soon, the Kia Niro EV will join the list, but at the moment, these are the main three vehicles by Kia Motors that come with a charging port. The steps for consumers are simple – select a charge, schedule an appointment for installation, and then enjoy the convenience of charging at home.

The home charger is known as a “Level 2” or “240-volt” charger, made specifically for charging plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. Unlike a standard 120-volt home appliance outlet, that would charge a vehicle overnight, a Level 2 charger can do so in several hours. Available chargers to choose from are the official Kia partner Bosch brand, along with ChargePoint and JuiceBox also available. Pricing is shown for each so consumers can know what to expect and plan ahead.

The 2019 Kia Soul EV can has a charging time of 5.1-6 hours for a total charge with the Level 2 charger. Interestingly enough, the 2019 Kia Niro PHEV (larger than the Soul EV) and the 2019 Kia Optima PHEV can both receive a total charge in under three hours with a Level 2 240V upgrade. Otherwise, one can expect up to nine hours for the latter two, and the Kia Soul EV has a recorded 33 hours requirement if looking for a total charge.

All installations are done by a licensed professional electricians. Consumers get the installation price upfront, and don’t have to worry about being restricted with the convenient scheduling. Plus, all installations are backed with Amazon's Happiness Guarantee plan.

“Home-charging can't get any easier than this. Being able to order a Level 2 charger and installation through Amazon further demystifies and simplifies the experience for new Kia EV and PHEV owners. It's just another example of how we're constantly striving to provide the very best vehicles and customer experience.” - Orth Hedrick, Executive Director of Kia Motors America Car Planning and Telematics
