Florida driver licenses and I.D. cards are getting a makeover! The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has redesigned driver licenses and I.D. cards and the new design makes the cards one of the most secure in the U.S.

Currently, the new cards are available at select DMVs and service centers across Florida and by the end of December 2017, all Florida service centers will only issue the new design. However, license and I.D. cards that have the old design will still be valid, but once it’s time to renew an I.D. or replace a lost or stolen I.D., the original card will be replaced with the new card.

In addition to the new look of the card, the new design also has several less obvious changes that nearly double fraud protection in comparison to the current card. The new cards have four headshots, three on the front and one on the back. The cards also contain updated designations that make each card more informative to emergency services as well as new lifetime designations for sportsman’s, boater, freshwater, saltwater and hunting licenses.
