New Kia Niro EV Concept Has a Phenomenal Electric Range

Written By, Brad R.

Among the latest electric vehicles to be announced, few are more impressive than the 2018 Kia Niro EV concept that debuted at CES. The new Kia Niro EV is a more futuristic than most other vehicles the market. Sleek, powerful and fuel efficient vehicle, few vehicles will reshape the industry like this one.

The Kia Niro EV concept is equipped with a 64 kWh lithium-polymer battery that’s paired to a 150 kW electric motor. Together, the motor and battery give the Kia Niro PHEV a total driving distance of 238 miles on a single charge, which is as much as the Chevy Bolt EV! Just as remarkable as the Niro EV concept’s long-lasting battery is its rapid speed charging that provides 115 miles of usage after being plugged in for 30 minutes.

As far as being a remarkably fuel efficient car, the Kia Niro EV concept has new features the other Kia Niro models don’t have. Without a need for a traditional grill because there is no internal combustion engine, the front end of the Kia Niro EV concept has space for speakers and lights that makes up the Active Pedestrian Warning System. The Active Pedestrian Warning System sounds the front speakers to alert pedestrians that get too close to the vehicle. This is a particularly needed feature for electric vehicles because they are so quiet that many pedestrians do not hear them, so the technology protects pedestrians and prevents collisions.

Additionally, touch and gesture motions are how a driver operates various systems including audio and heating adjustments inside the cabin. Drivers can swipe on parts of the steering wheel to make these changes as well as introducing 5G connectivity. Just as vehicles are faster and more efficient, so too are internet speeds and reliability and the 2018 Kia Niro provides the capacity for this new integration.

For now the Kia Niro EV concept is just a concept, however, there are two other fuel efficient options, the Kia Niro is a hybrid and the Kia Niro PHEV will debut soon. Find out how you can take home your very own 2018 Kia Niro PHEV soon with Now Car.
