Kia Adds More Value and Safety Into New Sorento X-Line

Written By, Brad R

The debut of the 2021 Kia Sorento crossover for the US took place just last month. Kia has also rolled out the new Sorento X-Line. The X-Line is a new appearance package that extends a sharp, hardy styling, a greater ride height, and some other exclusive features. Kia first offered the X-Line for the Kia Soul and now customers can gain this available trim package on Kia's other crossovers. Kia included two Seltos X-Line concepts at the 2019 LA Auto Show. The perks of this new X-Line are not entirely revealed, but we have plenty to share.

What's On the Inside Is What Matters Most

The X-Line will transform the Kia Sorento to a wider appearance with larger-looking front and rear bumpers. Kia added skid-plate elements, dark gray 20-inch wheels, new roof rails, and some neat exterior badges. The X-Line has an inch higher ground clearance than the standard Sorento for a total of 8.3 inches. While the ground clearance is only a half-inch less than the rival Subaru Outback, and Kia says the X-Line provides far more generous approach and departure angles for drivers.

Examining the X-Line

Owners that want to opt for the X-Line trim can only do so with vehicles that come with all-wheel drive. Another detail worth keeping in mind is the only powertrain option for this trim for the Kia Sorento is the prized turbocharged 2.5-Liter inline-four that produces 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. As Kia has planned on offering customers more, this is just the start of many exciting changes coming out for customers.

Kia has plans to launch a new plug-in hybrid Sorento in 2021 and they have announced the X-Line will be an option for the 2021 Sorento. As long as customers know, the AWD system requirement will still be kept. This package also includes torque-vectoring technology as well as a center-locking differential, and AWD models will gain new a Snow driving mode to improve drivers dealing with the bothersome weather. The X-Line package will solely be available on the highest trim, the SX-Prestige, which means it should be very detailed inside and bring a ton of stuff of tech.

What's On the Inside Is What Matters Most

The Sorento in these photos is finished in the gorgeous Aruba green color, which is exclusive to the X-Line, with a tanned leather interior that's accented by real wood trim. It has quilted leather, second-row captain's chairs that slide and recline, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The new 2021 Sorento comes with a wide array of attractive available features like a 360-degree camera setup, wireless phone charging, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and eight USB ports. Most if not all of these features could end up being standard on the X-Line.

Packed With Safety Features

Regarding the Kia X-Line, a host of safety features will be standard. Every 2021 Sorento carries automated emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and lane-following assist as standard, but there are a number of new optional features like adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, cyclist detection, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, as well as a blind-spot camera system that keeps drivers safer. While pricing for X-Line or the new Sorento has not been disclosed, we have learned the top-end 2020 Sorento SX is expected to begin over $40,000. The price will be similar to the new SX-Prestige. Kia says the 2021 Kia Sorento will debut later in 2020.
