Jeep Wrangler Debuts 4xe Trim Early In 2021

Written By, Brad R

Starting in 2021, Jeep will offer a very distinct Wrangler trim, the 4xe trim. Entering 2021, the PHEV Jeep Wrangler that customers have been asking for will see a complete production rollout. In 2019, Jeep first offered a mild-hybrid Wrangler that saw some success, but this trim will offer more than the previous eco-friendly challenging customers to opt for mild-hybrid systems back in 2019. Jeep has stated that the production of the 4xe has officially begun! Even before production started, Jeep knew it had created a winner and a celebrated eco-friendly vehicle.

A Closer Look Into the Jeep Wrangler 4xe's Strength

Owners can relish the days of using cleaner energy to drive their vehicles, rather than unleaded gasoline. The comparative cost of using EVs is way lower for customers and the technology is only becoming better and more prevalent around the nation. Jeep prepared by not reducing much in the way of engine power to make the Wrangler 4xe a reality. The 4xe motor provides 134 horsepower and 181 ft-lb of torque alone. The new 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is quite the powerhouse in terms of what is typically provided for mid-size SUVs. The strength added to the 2021 Wrangler when paired with both its engines amounts to 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. This hybrid setup has added the support of both efficiency and strength together to offer more for customers to appreciate on the road. The gasoline engine produces 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

While the electric motor ahead of the transmission replaces the torque converter, that's about the extent of the hybrid of the 4xe's powertrain. The motor is safe by two clutches: one that connects the motor to the eight-speed transmission behind it, and one that connects it to the engine in front of it. Keep in mind, the 2021 Wrangler 4xe can go 25 miles on electric power only. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler can achieve 50 mpg-e for owners to enjoy.

Inside the Wrangler 4xe

Customers that opt for the 4xe will have their choice when driving between multiple driving modes; total EV mode, hybrid mode, and a charging and maintenance mode available. Regenerative braking is also pliable from light to heavy, supporting owners when they go on roads less explored. Perhaps the most enjoyable part about this Wrangler 4xe is the fact that drivers will rarely give up anything for the EV capabilities. The battery pack, inverter, and other associated equipment are placed under a flip-forward rear seat. Jeep made this a point due to its safety above the frame rails away from rock cavities or holes. The electronics are entirely waterproofed, so the 4xe owns the ability to ford 30 inches of water. All 4xe models get Dana 44 axles front and rear and the look is still all Wrangler, nothing tame about the 4xe trim.

Details Regarding the 2021 Jeep Wrangler

The 2021 Wrangler 4xe and Sahara 4xe trims receive a two-speed transfer case with automatic four-wheel-drive mode and a 2.72:1 low-range. A limited-slip differential is available, and the axle ratios are 3.73:1. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe trim will offer a 0.1 of an inch lower in terms of ground clearance as opposed to the gasoline models. The Wrangler Rubicon 4xe trim adds a transfer case with a 4:1 low-range, electronic locking front and rear axles with a 4.1:1 ratio and electronic sway bar disconnect, plus the same ground clearance of the non-PHEV Rubicon.
