NowCar 2024 Hyundai Ioniq Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse

Hyundai Motor is Pretty Popular in the Spider-Verse

Written By, Jordan R

Kia and its parent group Hyundai Motor Co have been doing pretty great lately. Kia has also been making a lot of noise about its growing lineup of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). These include the  Kia EV6, Kia EV9, Kia EV5 BEV, Kia EV4, and EV3. Lots of PR for the South Korean automaker, so what about Hyundai? Like Kia, Hyundai is of course introducing a lot of hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, as well as BEVs like the KONA and Ioniq 5. In fact, the latter got some major media coverage when it popped up in an animated movie back in 2023 – Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse.

The original Spider-verse movie won so many awards when it was released in 2019, and the sequel won several other awards at various award shows, such as the Alliance of Women Film Journalists, American Film Institute Awards, Celebration of Cinema and Television, and others. The film was so phenomenal, that fans and content creators are still picking it apart and finding interesting tidbits viewers may not have caught during the first or fifth viewing. There’s just so much action going on, it’s easy to miss some things.

For instance, during a particular scene during a free fall, we can see a Hyundai Ioniq ad on a billboard in the background. Yes, in this movie, everyone drives a flying car – there’s even a metro train to the moon – so the fictional Ioniq is also a flying car, but hey, maybe one day, right? Moreover, we can see the Hyundai logo on various cars during a chase scene, and we’re sure it’s not the only one. In the World of Spider-Man 2099, Hyundai Motor seems to be pretty popular. Let’s take a look at the latest Ioniq from the automaker, winning “World Car of the Year”, “World Electric Car”, and “World Car Design of the Year” during the “World Car Awards”.

The 2024 Ioniq 5 is an all-electric SUV. The parent group of Kia, we knew this was going to happen after the announcement of the Kia EV5 all-electric SUV. With an estimated driving range of 303 miles, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes in four trims, starting at $41,650 (plus destination fee). In terms of powertrain, there is a standard range powertrain with rear-wheel drive featuring an output of 168 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Past the base, the Ioniq 5 comes with all-wheel drive (AWD) and a dual motor to generate an output of 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. With rapid charging capability, either trim can get an 80 percent charge in just 18 minutes.

That’s just a sample of what the 2024 Ioniq 5 can do. Also, an SUV, it has a towing capacity of 2300 pounds (past the base trim). The Ioniq 5 comes equipped with LED automatic headlights, and features heated front seats, a power 8-way adjustable driver’s seat (and passenger seat in the Limited trim), and a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen with navigation. There’s a lot the new Ioniq 5 has to offer, now and in the fictional future.
