How the Mid-size Pickup Market Will Change By 2020

Written By, Brad R

Time doesn’t wait up and the world changes every moment, so it's not a surprise to see how much the pickup market will change by 2020. New vehicles, enhanced interiors, and the bar being raised across the automotive industry. Many brands have looked to craft all new generation pickups, including Chevrolet with their all-new 2019 Silverado 1500 and Ram with their all-new 2019 Ram 1500. Both of these vehicles were released to much fanfare in 2018 and continue to sell very well. However, by 2020 there will be new vehicles ready to compete amongst the long-standing popular choices customers have typically purchased. Wondering what are some of these new pickup options that will come out soon?

2020 Jeep Gladiator

It’s been a long time since Jeep had a pickup truck available on the market, nearly 30 years actually. To make sure that their latest creation, the all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator has been forged through a gauntlet of tests to be ready for this spring’s release. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) made the Jeep Gladiator complete a number of tests including water fording tests where the results exhibit the Gladiator drove through 30 inches of water. Different tests included a 2,950-foot climb over just 11.4 miles long while entirely loaded to the max with a combined with of 12,800 pounds; the Gladiator easily succeeded. The Best-in-class maximum towing stands out for this mid-size option and its ability to handle different obstacles while driving.

This is what owners can expect with a Jeep pickup: a durable, strong and sharp looking vehicle that will embrace everything an owner would presume of a Jeep vehicle. With standard skid plates, off-road camera and off-road tires, owners can find extreme trails to ride and fall in love with the off-road, unlike any Jeep vehicle before it.

Upcoming Ram Mid-Size Pickup “Mojave”

Not to be outdone in the mid-size pickup market, the upcoming Ram “Mojave” will see a release by 2022. The competition in the mid-size market will include the aforementioned Jeep Gladiator as well as the Ford Ranger and Chevy Colorado. Listed as the Mojave for now, Ram has not revealed a lot of details about this upcoming pickup. FCA has only said they are creating this mid-size truck to appeal to the popularity of pickups with enhanced features. The last Ram product to be labeled in this segment was the Dodge Ram Dakota before the brands split into their own individual brands.

“Customers have been asking for additional high-end features on Rebel and now we’re delivering with benchmark technology and materials wrapped in off-road capability,” Jim Morrison, Head of the Ram Brand.

2020 Chevrolet Colorado

Not to be outdone, the Chevrolet Colorado will be among the most sought after pickup options. The Chevrolet mid-size pickup is set to offer a new 10-speed automatic transmission for their top-tier trims, a possible new 2.7-Liter turbocharged L3B 4-cylinder petrol engine with an impressive 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. With the arrival of this truck unknown, there is already speculation as to when the Chevrolet product will come out as it will undoubtedly be successful.

The automotive industry has changed quite a lot over the past several years and the segment that has grown the most is the pickup truck segment. As these become more popular, more brands will bring back or create new entries for customers. Want to own a new pickup and order it from the comfort of your home?
