GMC, the father automaker of the classic HUMMER also gave rise to another brand as it matured- the Denali brand. As many automaker groups tend to do, GMC expanded and used the GMC Denali nameplate on its top-of-the-line trucks and SUVs in the lineup. Starting in 1999, the next generation was presented in 2014 and is due for a renewal. GMC thinks the 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate trim will be the SUV to take the brand to new heights.
Power
Starting off with the powertrain, the 2023 Yukon Denali Ultimate comes standard with a 6.2L V8 engine, able to generate 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission, trims powered by the V8 will provide a fuel economy of 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. Another available powertrain will be a Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel, able to generate 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. No word on the return of the 5.3-liter V8 from the 2022 model, able to generate 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, also paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission.
Capability is still alive and well in the Yukon Denali Ultimate. Magnetic Ride Control and an Air Ride Adaptive Suspension both come standard. Also standard for going off-road and handling various terrain, an Active Response 4WD™ system with an electronic limited-slip differentialand Auto Track two-speed transfer case have been installed.
Styling
The exterior and interior have been upgraded with next-level materials and a feeling of immersion when in the cockpit. New for 2023 are an exclusive Vader Chrome finish (no affiliation with Darth Vader) and Galvano appointments make the front fascia pop. Polished bright chrome adorns the window and door panels, and the whole SUV rides on 22-inch seven-spoke ultra-bright machined wheels with bright chrome accents and dark paint.
Elevating the level of comfort in the interior, consumers can say hello to available 16-way power front seats with a massage function, plus Alpine Umber full-grain leather upholstery all throughout the cabin, Denali Ultimate-exclusive stitching, and aluminum décor. In addition to these premium features, the interior also features an open-pore Paldao woodgrain trim with a laser-etched topographical map of Mount Denali, a sort of flex for GMC Denali craftsmanship.
Tech
For the first time, the 2023 Yukon Denali Ultimate introduces an advanced 18-speaker Bose Performance Series audio system to the lineup, including head restraint-based speakers for front-row passengers. The design of the speaker system is elegant with metal speaker grilles that blend seamlessly into the interior cabin. An available 10.2-inch premium GMC infotainment system with Google built-in can also be found, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Select trims can also add a wi-fi hotspot, come with Amazon Alexa built-in, and wireless phone charging.
The Yukon Denali Ultimate also offers Super Cruise driver assistance technology, an advanced safety feature that helps to automatically change lanes or tow hands-free. It may be a small level of autonomy, but it’s a plus for this SUV.
