GMC Sierra Sees Impressive Sales Growth In 2020

Written By, Brad R

Think Ford is ahead of all other pickup brands? That may have been the case for a long stretch of time, but the Coronavirus pandemic has changed the pickup scene. Now that 2020 is in the rearview mirror, we can look at the data that has come out for the final totals of what 2020 offered and what to expect in 2021; we see big things continuing for General Motors. Allow us to share the insight we've gained by looking at the cold, hard facts.

GMC Exceeds Expectations In 2020

The results are in; the GMC Sierra 1500 finished with the higher year-to-date percentage growth over both the Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-Series. In fact, Ford saw more than a 12 percent decrease from 2019 to 2020. Chevy can be happy with its 3.2% increase from the 2019 to 2020 jump. However, the truly powerful growth is the remarkable job the GMC Sierra did by growing 8.9% from 2019 to 2020. Of course, Ford still outsold both of those pickups by hitting 787,422 vehicles sold, versus 594,094 vehicles sold by the Silverado, and half of that with 253,016 for the Sierra. The percent of growth though is a very telling statistic and should make GMC happy to see. Does this momentum mean greater things this year for GMC?

Pickup Scene Outlook For 2021?

It's important to keep in mind that General Motors' total sales dipped 12 percent, largely due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The loss was mainly due to the slow pickup sales with a scarcity of popular buyer choices. GM has made the choice to slow production in lieu of the problems still going on with the pandemic. However, by May 2020, production had begun to help sales grow and that move helped revive the interest in pickups nationwide.
