Fiat Chrysler Is Named Stellantis After Merger Is Finally Complete

Written By, Brad R

STELLANTIS is the name of the new Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and PSA Groupe combination that was made when the two companies formed late last year. This merger was a long time coming for the Fiat Chrysler brand. The good news for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, now, Stellantis, is that the playing field is more even. Let's get into the plans for the new brand and name going forward in the auto industry.

The New Boss In Town Has Its Name

The merger has created the fourth-largest automaker today. The Stellantis name origin is from Latin with a definition listed as "to brighten with stars". The motivation behind the merger was clear as both companies wanted to generate a larger fan base, build greater EV motors and technology. We know Stellantis will represent a wider brand with both companies fully united. One hope FCA had was to grow the Jeep brand in Europe and develop greater EV technologies. Changes to the brands on both sides are expected, but it is far too early to know what to expect.

Modifications To the Chrysler Brand Over Time

The Chrysler brand has evolved a number of occasions since first changing its name in 1998 to DaimlerChrysler. The company was started in 1925 and carried the Chrysler name for over 73 year. The first name change lasted close to a decade. The new moniker changed to Chrysler LLC in 2007 was switched up yet again two years later. The Chrysler Group was then changed to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2014 after Chrysler acquired Fiat. Now, "STELLANTIS", as the company requires to be known; in all CAPS. This does not mean Fiat Chrysler is going to alter the name of Chrysler or any of the other company names that are a part of the brand. Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Maserati, and Fiat will retain their names.
