NowCar 2022 Jeep Wagoneer Grand Wagoneer Reveal Interior

All the High-Tech in the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Written By, Jordan R

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer finally made their big reveal, and although there is so much information to cover, if there is one thing we love at NowCar, it’s all of the new and modern technology being put into vehicles today. From battery electric vehicles to smart systems, automobiles are becoming more like multimedia devices on wheels, and the Jeep Wagoneer, especially the Grand Wagoneer, are no exception. Just take a look at all of the standard and available options coming to the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models this year and in the near future.

Plug-in Hybrids

In the summer of 2018, back when Stellantis was first divided and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) was still flying solo, the automotive group had finally announced plans to start investing in electric and alternative fuel options for Fiat Chrysler. It was slow to start, first taking a hit when the FCA had to pool its car fleet with Tesla -a prime competitor - just to make it under the standards of the European Union on CO2 emissions. Among the first vehicles to take the lead was Jeep, and this is one automaker that always makes good on its promises.

Just last year, we saw the first Jeep Wrangler 4xe finally make its debut. Although not to overshadow the earlier premier of the Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe, Jeepers and fans alike will always be waiting on the Jeep Wrangler, the icon of the name, to go electric. Well, it may not be all-electric, but Jeep is definitely making its way into the deep end of the pool with plug-in hybrid variants of its vehicles. In fact, that’s where we start with the tech of the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.

Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer Tech

Although both models will come with their gasoline engine counterpart, both powerful V8 engines, a plug-in hybrid model will also be made available of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer – release date to be announced. To start, however, Jeep isn’t going 100-percent gasoline. Making a return for 2022 is the famous eTorque system that landed on the WardsAuto 10 Best Engine list in its first year. Having made its debut in the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL and the new generation of the Ram 1500, the eTorque was just the beginning.

Starting from the front fascia of the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, an interesting bit of tech stands out before we head into the interior. Puddle lights, those lights that go off to help consumers avoid stepping into puddles when in the dark or after a rainstorm, spell out “Wagoneer” on the ground below. Now, starting with the front dashboard and center console, consumers will notice that Jeep has committed to a more high-tech setup, starting with a backlit aluminum shift knob for switching gears.

On either side of the knob are switches for the terrain modes and ride height settings made available on the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models. The Wagoneer comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but offers Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. Consumers can add air springs to give the Wagoneer models an additional ground clearance of 3.6 inches. The Grand Wagoneer comes standard with Quadra-Trac II, a 4x4 system, the air springs, and five terrain modes—auto, sport, rock, snow, and mud/sand.

To the right of the standard 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster (2.3-inch screen on the Grand Wagoneer), and making up the center console of the Jeep Wagoneer is a stunning 10.1-inch infotainment screen with Stellantis's Uconnect 5 infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability are included, but this is just the beginning of the kind of technology consumers will see. Although the following have not yet been confirmed for the Wagoneer, Jeep was sure to make it known how refined the Grand Wagoneer is, separating it from the Wagoneer with many, many high-tech options.

The center console for the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is made up of a 12.0-inch unit for Uconnect 5, paired up with an additional 10.3-inch touchscreen below that, dedicated to the climate control system for keeping everyone comfortable. If looking for additional sunlight, a multiple panel sunroof will be available on select trims (lineup to be announced). The second-row passengers will also get their own touchscreen for climate control – most likely standard with a seven-passenger bucket seat second row versus an eight-passenger second-row.

Multiple touchscreens are available throughout the cabin with a 10.3-inch passenger display that can be integrated into the dashboard above the glovebox – operations not yet described. For the second-row, these passengers can algo get 10.1-inch screens for the second-row seatbacks. Like rear entertain systems of the past, consumers can plug their devices into screens via HDMI. These systems can also stream over the onboard Wi-Fi to watch Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube through Amazon Fire TV for Auto. We saw a sneak peak of the Amazon Fire debut for Jeep during the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show, and now the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer brings it out in full. To complete the package, Jeep has also added a head-up display, digital rearview mirror, a McIntosh 23 speaker sound system, cooled center console storage, and a touchpad-controlled safe hiding under the front armrest for sake keeping of personal items – all additional options for most likely the Grand Wagoneer model.

Autonomous Car Technology

Lastly, in 2018, back when it was still just Fiat Chrysler, FCA also confirmed a $30 Million investment into Autonomous Vehicle Testing Facilities, an adaptation of its Chelsea Proving Grounds for testing new vehicles coming to the lineup. We may not be seeing any self-driving vehicles from Stellantis available for retail anytime soon, but we will be seeing hands-free Jeep vehicles in the near future. Although the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will initially only offer Level 3 autonomy features at launch, there is more to look forward to. The Level 3 features include Jeep's lane-centering and adaptive cruise control technology, night vision for animal and pedestrian detection, and a 360-degree camera. Eventually, both Wagoneer models will be equipped with hands-free driving technology, much like the systems seen on Level 4, maybe even Level 5 automotive autonomy.

One more step closer to self-driving vehicles, and if we can believe any automaker at the moment, it’s Jeep. Back when the automaker released its five-year roadmap, the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer were slated for 2022. Well, here we are, March 2021, getting the reveal. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will go on sale this summer, with a Grand Wagoneer Obsidian edition also available at launch, a blacked-out version with black 22-inch wheels, badging, and interior.
