NowCar 2019 Chevy Bolt EV Comparison

2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV Goes Up Against the 2019 Chevrolet Volt PHEV

Written By, Amanda S.

In Journalism, it’s always important to know and listen to your audience, especially when they give feedback. While some consumers may say that Electric Vehicles (EVs) are a blast to drive thanks to the torque, others may disagree, stating that EV’s don’t fit their #noboringcars mantra. In order to really determine if EVs are as fun (or boring) as some may claim, we’ve compared the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV and the 2019 Chevrolet Volt PHEV. Let’s see what we come up with.

2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV

Beginning with Chevy’s 2019 Bolt EV, it is considered the first affordable all-electric car to offer an estimated-EPA of 238 miles of electric range on a single charge. For the 2019 model year, the Bolt has maintained its single electric motor, powered by a 60-kWh battery pack. Once the Bolt hits the long stretches of a highway, drivers should be cautious to not torch the front tires at the initial take-off, mainly due to its ability to generate 266 lb-ft of torque. For additional highway driving comfort, the Bolt’s 200 horsepower output was convenient on multiple occasions - specifically when driving on two-lane roads. The “low” driving profile was also refined to decrease the number of times the driver utilizes the brake pedal.

Another driving benefit offered on the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV is the regen paddles located on the steering wheel. The regen paddles allow drivers to slow the vehicle at a variety of rates, while the motor generator delivers an electric current back to the battery that, as a result, recharges the battery and can potentially increase driving range. When the regen paddle is matched with the Bolt’s “low” mode, illustrated by an “L” on the gearshift, a minimal falloff of range or a decrease in the range of miles is produced. The 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV has the ability to offer a comfortable and engaging driving experience while touring various regions, and with a https://www.nowcar.com/blog/archive/why-wait-for-tesla-when-chevy-bolt-ev-is-here/, getting stranded should be the least of your worries.

On the inside, the Chevy Bolt EV offers slim yet supportive seats and spacious rear seats with generous legroom. Contrary to the Volt, that’s equipped with an 8.0-inch display, the Bolt features an impressive 10.2-inch display. The Bolt’s large touchscreen display is organized and easy-to-use and also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

2019 Chevrolet Volt PHEV

As a plug-in hybrid, the 2019 Chevrolet Volt is capable of running on electricity for a certain distance but is also equipped with a gasoline engine for additional driving when the battery is depleted. For the 2019 model year, the Volt maintains the same hybrid powertrain, but now features a 7.2-kW built-in charger that significantly reduces charging time. Not only does the Chevrolet Volt have an impressive 53 miles of pure-electric range, but its hybrid setup also makes the Volt incredibly quick and exceptionally quiet. Tis’ true that the Chevy Volt can’t recharge as quickly as the Chevy Bolt, but luckily, consumers can upgrade the charging system to recharge the battery in less than two and a half hours.

Fortunately, the Volt has a total driving range of 420 miles, thanks to the 1.5-liter DOHC 16-valve I4 gasoline extender. Once the engine is combined with the Twin AC motor, it has a combined output of 149 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. While the interior cabin of the Chevrolet Volt PHEV features convenient controls and a pleasant front seat, the back seat is a bit cramped and has limited rear visibility. On a positive note, the interior cabin is loaded with nicely sculpted materials and the displays are easy-to-read with high-quality graphics.

All-in-all, both updated vehicles are ideal places to spend those long commutes. Additionally, noise, vibrations, and harshness are fairly subdued, even without the sounds of a powertrain to drown out the sound of the road. Considering that both vehicle choices deliver a difference in philosophies for how electric vehicles can be executed, it seems that the Bolt EV’s “purity of purpose” as a full-electric vehicle played a significant role in helping it feel more like a valued proposition than the volt.

NowCar makes it convenient for consumers to not only search for but also design a vehicle that accommodates their needs. The best part? Consumers don’t have to leave the comfort of their own home or deal with the anxiety-induced experience at a dealership.
