The Malibu L, Malibu LS and Malibu LT areall equipped with the turbocharged 1.5L engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5L engine is ideal for people that have long daily commutes because it a great balance of power and fuel economy. The 1.5L engine produces 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque and it gives the Malibu a great fuel economy of 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
The turbocharged 2.0L engine is standard on the Chevy Malibu Premier and it boosts the vehicle’s power to 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0L engine is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, which improves performance and fuel economy. Despite the additional power produced by the bigger engine, the fuel economy of the Malibu Premier is still pretty great. The Malibu Premier averages 22 mpg in the city and it has a respectable fuel economy of 32 mpg on the highway.
Only available on the Chevy Malibu Hybrid is a 124-horsepower 1.8L hybrid engine that is paired to a two-motor drive unit and an automatic transmission. While not as strong as the other engines offered on the other 2018 Malibu engines, the Malibu Hybrid goes above and beyonce expectations with its excellent fuel economy of 49 mpg in the city and a 43 mpg on the highway MPG. According to fueleconomy.gov, the Chevy Malibu Hybrid provides the average driver with around $2,750 in fuel savings over five years in comparison to the average midsize vehicle.
The first three 2018 Chevy Malibu trims (L, LS, and LT) are equipped with halogen headlights and buyers of the Malibu LT and Malibu Hybrid can upgrade the vehicle’s headlights to IntelliBeam headlights with high 
beam assist, which are the standard headlights on the Malibu Premier. All Malibu trims come with automatic on/off headlights standard. Available on higher-level trims are LED daytime running lamps and the Malibu Premier features LED taillamps.
