Reserved mainly for high-end sports cars, hydroforming was employed by General Motors to help shape the frame of the Silverado in order to actually increase strength and fuel efficiency.

Chevy also made some changes in the materials used to shape the Silverado. Helping the pickup shed nearly 250 pounds by utilizing a special aluminum material and composites, Chevy said goodbye to conventional steel and hello to the future. The coupling of hydroforming and aluminum material makes for a highly efficient and lightweight pickup truck, without sacrificing strength, aesthetics, or power.

The ‘Reaper’ is a Custom, Offroad-Ready Silverado

One of the best parts of owning a full size pickup truck? Taking it off the beaten path to let it do what it was made to do. The Silverado thrives in the off-road environment on its own, but Chevy recognized that America’s favorite pick-up truck needed a little something extra to cater to the off-road junkies out there.

That desire for customization and a better off-road experience came together to create the custom, off-road-ready 2015 Silverado “Reaper” edition.

The special edition truck is a collaboration between the company Ligenfelter, and Southern Comfort Automotive, an Alabama-based custom truck shop. Using the crew cab Silverado with the short bed box as the blank canvas, the Reaper was further improved by incorporating the following:

• New grille and hood to give the truck a fierce appearance every off-road enthusiast will appreciate.

• Integrated flood lights and LEDs to ensure a clear-line of sight no matter where an adventure may lead.

• High-clearance bumper thanks to a lifted suspension three inches over stock. Sitting up high for maximum comfort, maneuverability, and experience.

• Fox remote reservoir shocks ensures that off-road adventure doesn’t leave any unsightly bruises from the inevitably bumpy ride.

• Choice of supercharged engines: 475 hp V8, or a 550 hp 6.2-liter small block, will fit the needs of every off-road warrior.

The Reaper package is similar to that of the Ford Raptor, but goes above and beyond the competition with the level of quality customization and attention to detail.
