Strongest Pickups on the Market Today

For drivers that need a pickup to handle their business needs and towing needs, strength is the only measuring stick. Well, we’ve done the homework and we have looked at a few of the most popular pickup trucks on the market and here is what we have found to be the strongest pickup trucks.

Kings of Torque

2018 Ram 3500 HD

Incase you weren’t sure what determines a strong truck, torque is definitely a key factor. Torque is measured by how much force that is able to move a vehicle and power large trucks to haul their heavy loads into motion.

The new 2018 Ram 3500 HD is among the champions of torque earning the accolade as the vehicle with one of the highest torque ratings ever for a pickup truck. The Ram 3500HD boasts 930 lb-ft of torque and an incredible 30,000 pounds of towing ability with a fifth-wheel hitch. The increase in torque comes from the engine’s higher boost limits made possible through a variable geometry turbo as well as flow rate increases by the fuel delivery system.

The 2018 Ram 3500 HD’s torque number is so extreme and remarkable; frankly unheard of from a factory engine (inline-six-cylinder Cummins B motor) and transmission. Mike Manley, head of Jeep & Ram Brand, FCA Global, spoke about Ram trucks adding, “We understand the attributes most important to our customers within the heavy-duty segment, they demand hard-working, long-lasting capability.”
The Ram 3500’s increased torque will help businesses simply due to the higher towing capabilities, which were previously only available by Class 4 and 5 trucks. The price is also remarkable for all the power provided, starting at only $33,645 MSRP (Plus destination fee).
2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty XL
Another remarkable truck is the 2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty XL 2WD regular cab has an available 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8. This powerful engine provides 450 horsepower with 935 lb-ft of torque. This engine puts the torque number at the current top spot on the list of torque power.
A six-speed automatic transmission and the ability to haul up to 15,000 pounds with a conventional trailer or up to 18,500 pounds with a fifth wheel. The base price of the vehicle is $36,203 MSRP (Plus destination fee). This is a full size pickup HD that is not only popular, but known for its intense strength.
Best of the Rest
2018 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD
With a remarkable towing capacity of 14,000 pounds for the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD puts this vehicle on the list. It jumps to 16,000 pounds of towing capacity when equipped with the 6.6-liter V8 Duramax engine. It’s 910 torque rating with the available 6.6-liter V8 Duramax engine provides owners with exceptional strength to haul medium-sized boats or RVs. The 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD begins at $53,495 MSRP (Plus destination fee).
2018 Ford F-150 Raptor
Not to be forgotten is the powerful 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor with it’s high-output 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine or the 6.2-liter V8 engine that provides 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. The cost of the 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor starts at $50,115 MSRP (Plus destination fee). The towing capacity hits up to 8,000 pounds, as this strong Ford F-150 has to be recognized for its strength and offroading abilities.

PHEVs Are Slowly Losing to BEVs After All

The world of the auto industry and consumers is a slippery slope – or maybe more like ocean waves that go up and down. Even with every major automaker going electric, consumers are still wary about buying a battery-electric vehicle, and they have a right to be. IONNA may be installing 30,000 BEV chargers in 2024, but it won’t be enough to handle all of the BEVs coming out by 2030 if every consumer owns an all-electric vehicle. Insight reporters say plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are the best choice, and may even lead to a transition to BEVs for plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) consumers. Less than a year later, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Earlier this year, it seemed possible. According to J.D. Power data, 87 percent of consumers in the market own a PHEV, and out of that consumer population, 96 percent are likely to purchase a BEV for their next vehicle. So, what went wrong? In a wild turn of events, PHEVs are no longer ahead. Brent Gruber, executive director of the EV practice at J.D. Power shed some light on the matter, and it seems consumers are less-than-happy with their PHEV purchase.

“There’s been a lot of focus on creating intermediary steps for consumers who may not be ready to fully adopt a battery-electric vehicle yet…But the experience of plug-in hybrid owners “really isn’t favorable in comparison to battery-electric vehicles.” – Gruber told Automotive News.

When it comes to overall satisfaction on a 1000-point scale for owning a PHEV or a BEV, plug-in hybrids come out at 669, whilst BEVs land at 716. The difference may not be huge, but it is definitely going to affect the theory that PHEVs will be the bridge to buying a BEV. If a consumer is unhappy with an electrified vehicle, why in the world would they buy a fully-electric vehicle? It just wouldn’t make any sense.

If consumers were to buy a BEV, some reports say this would be purely because they’re an environmentalist. The glory of a PHEV is the fuel economy and extended range a fully charged battery pack and a tank of gasoline can provide. With BEVs getting more and more efficient, a lot of automakers are offering BEVs with a “Long Distance” trim level as an option for consumers who want a larger all-electric range (AER), either due to their commute or to make them less wary of going miles and miles without a charging station nearby. Known as extended range electric vehicles (EREVs), this would be the best choice for a consumer who wants a BEV and doesn’t want to sacrifice the range they get with a PHEV.

The only problem is getting consumers to make the jump. PHEV sales are declining, and for every conventional hybrid on the market, there are nearly twice as many BEVs. Currently, there are 41 PHEVs for sale in the U.S. That’s only 12 more than there were when all of this talk about going fully-electric started. Many automakers have completely shifted their focus to BEVs as well, which will only dwindle the number of hybrids and PHEVs in the face of all the BEVs set to be produced by 2030. All-in-all, it still feels like a gamble, for automakers and consumers.

Thanks to automakers installing apps that can find charging stations along a driver’s intended route, and suggest nearby stops to recharge when the battery pack gets low, consumers can ease up a bit on the fear of getting stranded. There is also the choice to install a Level 2 charger in their home or garage so they can have a full battery every morning. Automakers are slowly making it more convenient to buy a BEV, whereas PHEVs are slowly becoming more of a luxury and less of a commodity. 2025 is right around the corner, so maybe it’s finally time to go green with all of these 2025 model year BEVs coming out.

Best of all, you can get a great deal on a new BEV when you shop for a new car online with NowCar. So, what are you waiting for? Go green and get behind the wheel of a BEV today.

Kia Collaborates with Digital Artist SixnFive to Design EV3-Inspired World

The Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) is really set on introducing the world to the “Smart City” concept. First introduced during the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show, the HMG Smart City concept appeared again during the World Smart City Expo (WSCE) 2024. A design that blends nature and man-made infrastructure, the Kia Corp was happy to jump on board with its “Opposites United” design philosophy present in upcoming battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), most notably the recent Kia EV3 and EV4 concepts. Embracing the “Smart City” concept, Kia even collaborated with renowned Barcelona-based digital artist SixnFive to create a world inspired by what a lifestyle with the Kia EV3 would look in a Smart City.

Just check out that picture. A Smart City could change the way we think about living spaces, workspaces, and cityscapes by going for a bold, nature-inspired design that doesn’t simply cut down trees but builds around them. We’re not saying there’s actually a tree out there that looks just like the above, but it’s a neat way of embracing concrete and nature to make something functional while still getting some free oxygen on the side.

“It was a truly inspiring experience to take the features of the EV3 and translate them into this unique world of architecture and structures…It’s such a visually impressive car, with a serious presence. The prominent diagonal lines harmonically exist with the geometrical design, with these lines also rounded and soft. And like the car, the visuals we made are designed to have a lasting impression.” - Ezequiel Pini, known as SixnFive.

The Kia Corp design philosophy of “Opposites United” is all about combining mechanical engineering with nature. Using natural shapes to form its upcoming automobiles, Kia is making large strides to make future vehicles sustainable whilst changing the way they look. When they were first revealed, Kia shared details about how the EV3 and EV4 interiors were made with sustainable materials. The automaker also fully embraced its “Opposites United” design philosophy by choosing one of the main five elements – Air, Fire, Earth, Water, and Spirit – as the basis for each model.

The element Air was chosen for the look and feel of the EV3, and this led to creating a more atmospheric feel for the interior cabin with a focus on light and transparency. A great example of the sustainable materials used is mycelium. A resource that comes from mushroom roots, this was used to produce the EV3 interior console table. As for the EV4, its upholstery is made of 100-percent recycled cotton and uses natural dyes made of madder roots and walnut shells for the color. Based on this, the EV4 took inspiration from the element of Earth, of course.

As for SixnFive, he is a leading 3D artist known for creating imaginary, dreamlike worlds. With his art hosted in exhibitions in Art Basel, Moco Museum, Fotografiska Stockholm, and Museo della Permanente, he was a great choice for this collaboration. These images almost look real, and the placement of the Kia EV3 is the perfect choice.
New 2025 Jeep Gladiator Is More Than the Average Pickup

As we appreciate and look into the 2025 Gladiator, the refresh that took place last model year still carries over with a new version of the brand's seven-slot grille, the Gladiator provides a 12.3-inch touchscreen and newly available power-adjustable front seats. Jeep has decided to add two more trims to the Gladiator; both are the new top-tier trims theMojave X and Rubicon X. Keep in mind, there are new AEV upfit packages as well. Few trucks on the road today can offer total usefulness, exciting perks and everything owners want to have in a truck. Some might offer solid workhorse ability, but the interior is lacking and the drive wouldn’t be as comfortable or entertaining. Other pickups are lush, but can not handle going off-road or exploring like other brands, then there is the award-winning Jeep Gladiator mid-size pickup.

What Makes Jeep Special Unlike So Many Brands

No vehicle is quite like this comprehensive, productive pickup that ushers full octane adventure for those hoping to pair the ride with the high-end interior materials and technology that has made the drive so well-liked. The Gladiator ended up on Car and Driver’s 10Best list, on top of many awards since its arrival late last decade. The powerful Gladiator is excelling with perks of an interior that gains a new horizontal 12.3-inch touchscreen. The large display is standard on every trim and replaces the outgoing 7.0 and 8.4-inch touchscreens. The all-new infotainment screen supports the latest UConnect5 software, which comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has upgraded voice commands and backlight technology that's created to make the screen easier to see in direct light.

The Ability To Handle All Roads and Terrains

We think of the Jeep Gladiator to serve as the ideal option for those who want a truck capable of going nearly anywhere with ease. Four trims, special packaging choices, and lots of aftermarket parts exist for the new Jeep compact pickup that makes solid use of its materials. We’re convinced that the pleasure of owning a Jeep vehicle will reach the friends and family of any driver. Allow us to help our customers appreciate what separates the Jeep brand from other rival brands. A pickup is expected to offer better and more and Jeep has lived up to maintaining the goal that the brand set years before this truck was revealed over 5 years ago. What will the future hold for this brand and the Gladiator pickup? Jeep will have to do more to create a new buzz for the popularity to continue for the Gladiator mid-size pickup truck.

Choose Jeep To Find New Adventures

For adventure, the Gladiator pickup is built for frequent off-roading with its four-wheel-drive systems, supplemented skid plates, and raised tires. Allowing motorists to bear the experience they desire is what makes the Jeep brand stand out above other options. Not every pickup can truly afford their owners the delight a Jeep vehicle can and to know all the available options that are within the aftermarket of this vehicle, keep in mind there are a lot. Purchasing the right vehicle isn’t easy, but we are here to allow our guests to know what they are getting into here at NowCar.

Bellwether Industries Has the Right Idea About eVTOLs

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, “Where are my flying cars?!” It’s the year 2024 – we’re already 4 years into the 21st century, and Y2K is a lot further than that. Still – no personal flying aircraft. There are a lot of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft concepts popping up, but nothing the normal civilian will be able to pilot any time soon. Well, the Dubai Air Show last year flew under the radar with this one because Bellwether Industries debuted a design that could change the way we look at personal aircrafts.

It doesn’t seem to have a definitive name quite yet, but the eVTOL from Bellwether looks a lot like a sci-fi spacecraft. In terms of size, this is no Millennium Falcon, able to complete the Kessel Run in just under 12 parsecs, but it’s a start. For one thing, this Bellwether design looks nothing like the eVTOL concepts most automakers are coming out with. They’re big, they’re bulky, and the size of those propellers could do some serious damage if someone were to slip and fall getting in or out of the aircraft. Bellwether tackled all of those problems and more.

Instead of designing an evTOL with a bunch of propellers that are dangerous and take up space, this design comes with a hidden propulsion system housed inside the body to make it quiet, safer, and smaller. Most eVTOL concepts seem like they would need a helipad to land and take off, so they don’t seem very practical for personal use or in a commercial sense. Bellwether designed a eVTOL that can not only make use of current infrastructure with a city mindset already involved in the design process to make it more practical, but parking also won’t take up too much space. Most eVTOL aircraft concepts would need enough space between two aircraft that equals at least 50 percent of the entire body, whereas Bellwether eVTOL needs only 15 percent of that space between aircraft.

Now, when will we get these on the market? Well, for one thing, consumers won’t need a pilot license to get behind the wheel. In fact, there probably won’t be a wheel. Bellwether wants to make these autonomous. That’s another hurdle to get over next to making an eVTOL available to the public, but on a commercial scale, it might be a little easier. Regardless, the current concept is designed with civilian transportation in mind, able to seat up to five passengers, isn’t very large – 20 by 11 feet – and can cover 50-60 miles. It sounds like nothing for ground transportation, but in the air, it’s a lot.

The best part about this concept that literally flew under the radar is their capabilities will be advertised via professional racing. That’s right. It’s time for a little live action pod racing. Now, moving on from that tragedy of a film, how could it be for the next motorsport to be a race between flying cars? It will be the most watched sport in history, that’s for sure. Of course, the goal is to get this in the market for retail one day, but testing them in open roads before complex cities is a smart move. Even so, the Bellwether concept is quiet, able to make use of active noise canceling and sound dampening to keep the propulsion system quiet versus slowing the rotation of the propellers and risking a sudden descent. For lift off, the propulsion systems fire up at a higher speed and then decrease by 30 percent to move through the air.

As the popular internet meme goes, “SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!” That’s how this writer feels about the Bellwether eVTOL, at least.
Previewing the Newly Refreshed 2025 Ram 1500

The award-winning Ram 1500 pickup is now here for the 2025 model year. The 2025 Ram 1500 pickup has not only arrived, but become the newest and boldest example of Ram engineering. First off, buyers automatically should know they save a ton of money with the starting price at $40,275 MSRP (Plus destination fee), but will arrive with options like the Laramie trim and more high-end trims that push the Ram payments over the course of ownership to over the 60k mark. Allow us to explain what we enjoy most about this epic entry into the catalog or Ram 1500 pickups. With awards from J. D. Power for Best Initial Quality and a fresh redesign for the interior, we’re certain our buyers will embrace the new Ram 1500 with arms wide, wide open. (It’s a large pickup after all.)

New 2025 Ram 1500 Arrival Is Here

The highlight of the 2025 model year are the 2 new 3.0-Liter Hurricane engines. They are the star of the show for the new 2025 Ram 1500 along with a refresh that makes a welcomed addition. Buyers can decide which option is needed, impressive strength or freakish strength; that’s quality hard-working Ram power that ensure both options offer what buyers expect; class-leading perks like Most Available Touchscreen Space that might be the most firsthand enjoyable experience for passengers.

Most available towing is another perk of class-leading features, but we can’t keep bragging about the strength, can we? Of course, who doesn’t want a solid navigation system and a redesigned, newly added Premium Sound system. What’s not to love? We certainly have our eyes on the success of where this new Ram 1500 will lead. More packages? More EV options? For those looking to spend their money on a vehicle, we can answer all questions here at NowCar.

EREVs Could Be the Next Electric Vehicle Craze

The battery-electric vehicle (BEV) game is heating up. Major automakers are introducing electrified models every so often, but consumers are still wary about finding a place to charge up. It’s one of the reasons why PHEVs are winning this race. Consumers rather buy a PHEV instead of a BEV because if they can’t find a place to charge up, they can still rely on the gasoline engine. But a new competitor looms just around the corner: EREVs, also known as extended range electric vehicles.

Think about it. Many BEVs released these days have one trim dedicated to range, usually called “Long Range”. The Kia EV3 has it, as does the Kia EV6, and we’re sure the likes of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT BEV will have it, as will the Wagoneer S. Jeep is all about that distance. One thing that could really turn the challenge of charging up on its head would be making it almost unnecessary. After all, the further a BEV can go, the less often it needs to charge up. It’s simple math.

An EREV could be the solution that can make buying a BEV more practical, and it’s not like automakers aren’t already trying to do this. Chrysler claims its Halcyon concept never needs to recharge. Aptera is an automaker focused on making solar electric vehicles. Ram Truck introduced a very interesting concept with the 1500 Ramcharger. Not a BEV, not a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the 1500 Ramcharger estimated an all-electric range (AER) of up to 690 miles. What made it so special?

The 1500 Ramcharger is powered by a 92 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack that powers two electric drive modules (EDMs) – one 250-kilowatt (kW) motor in the front and one 238 kW motor in the rear. Not only that, but the Ramcharger also came with an on-board 130 kW generator powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine. Yes, a gasoline engine! At first glance, this would make it a plug-in hybrid, but not so fast. The gasoline engine doesn’t actually power the car. Instead, it burns fuel and transfers power to the generator that can then be used to recharge the battery pack. Pretty fancy.

Automaker Nissan is also starting to move in on this niche before it becomes popular. Having designed an EREV called e-POWER, the one hitch with this is that an EREV can’t be recharged. The battery pack is too small to make it worthwhile, but the e-POWER comes with an internal combustion engine (ICE) burning fuel to transmit energy to its batteries. It’s like the Ramcharger, but skips the middle man of an on-board generator. Extended range without the need to recharge? That’s something a BEV could never offer, and PHEVs are only worthwhile if they’re charged up from time-to-time. An EREV sounds like a real game-changer if we ever saw one.

It might take some time for automakers to take notice. EREVs may even disappear with the rising interest in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles slowly becoming more popular. It’s anyone’s guess what the next power source will be, but a multi-power powertrain is a great meeting of the two without sacrificing power or range. What do you think?
The International Longshoremen's Association Union Strike Begins

Strike, strike, strike! No, we’re not talking about baseball. It seems like every industry has workers going on strike lately, and who can really blame them? It’s not like many workers are UNDERPAID these days. After COVID-19 and remote work became more common, people realized how much their mental health takes priority over working long hours and getting paid less than their worth. It’s a domino effect that’s leading to more people being unhappy and more workers pushing back. The most recent strike, the port strike on the East and Gulf coasts, will also affect the auto industry.

The last strike to affect the auto industry was the UAW Strike. Lasting for almost two months in 2023, employees of many automotive manufacturing plants walked out and demanded better pay. Large automakers like Ford, Stellantis, and General Motors saw an estimated $40-60 million loss in production profit per week the UAW Strike went on. It was a heavy hit, but it forced some people to wake up and pay workers fairly. The 2023 Writers Guild of America strike followed, and now the people behind overseas shipments are taking action.

Starting October 1, 2024, negotiations between the International Longshoremen's Association broke apart. It was clear employers were once again refusing to agree on better pay. This led to 45,000 port workers walking away. This strike is going to affect 36 ports across America, and could cost the U.S. economy as much as $5 billion per day as imports come to a stop. Major ports along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts will get hit the hardest, but it also means imported goods such as vehicles, components, produce, and consumer goods will not be making it to shore.

Some suppliers and buyers were already preparing for this. It didn’t just come out of the blue. In August and September, shipments were accelerated to give the industries that would be affected a bit of a buffer between the end of supply shipments and production resources. However, the longer it lasts, the more scarce resources will become.

"The big problem is the uncertainty in this…If you think it's going to end in two weeks, you probably just put two weeks of inventory in place. But if you think it's going to last four weeks, well, four weeks is a lot of inventory to hold." - Dan Hearsch, Americas leader of the automotive and industrial practice at AlixPartners

These shipment delays could again lad to assembly plants and Tier 1 supplier factories shutting down. Assembly plants in the U.S. run by Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Volkswagen could feel the brunt of this first, relying on parts shipments from Europe. Even with the push to make more automobiles in America, many domestic brands still get some components overseas, and they too will feel the after effects of this strike. Simultaneously, should it last several weeks, it could also provide an opportunity for the same automakers affected by the UAW Strike to make use of their excess inventory and keep afloat – that means General Motors, Stellantis, and the Ford Motor Company could actually benefit from this.

Hurricane Helene also did a number on assembly plants, specifically in North Carolina. Now imagine all the seamen travelling through that storm to make shipments on time. No wonder they’re fighting for more pay. Their lives are on the line with every major storm and hurricane that passes through between June and November. If they were to disappear, their families and loved ones need to be taken care of, and it’s not like we can rely on fat cats lining their pockets to care one bit. These people need to be paid more so they can save more and provide for their families should they perish at sea. It’s grim, but true.

Some say the strike could end as soon as it began with political pressure on employers and the union to reach an agreement. What politics have to do with this, who knows? Then again, Joe Biden made an appearance during the UAW Strike and stood alongside workers in the picket lines. If the President gets involved, the things get serious. Hopefully this time, the orange clown will stay out of it, and we can get these port workers paid what they’re worth.

The New Ram 1500 REV is Set for Early Release in 2025

Back in 2022, every major automaker shared a plan for 2030 to introduce battery-electric vehicles into their lineup. While some auto groups are in a frenzy, releasing a new BEV every couple of months, like Kia releasing the Kia EV3 and Kia EV4 back-to-back, other automakers are taking their time. Some might say these automakers just don’t really have a plan *cough*Mitsubishi*cough*, but others say they’re just biding their time. Like Stellantis – the automotive group said it was waiting for the right time to start releasing BEVs, and just like that, we got the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT, Jeep Wagoneer S, Chrysler Halcyon concept, and the upcoming Ram 1500 REV. In fact, shortly following the release of the Dodge eMuscle car is the Ram 1500 REV, set for release in early 2025.

Ram is no newbie to all-electric vehicles either. The automaker’s first electric van, the ProMaster EV, went on sale in 2024. It already has hundreds of orders from Amazon to replace its delivery van fleet to go green. Ram Truck also introduced an interesting model, the 2025 1500 Ramcharger, an all-electric vehicle that uses a gasoline engine to charge an onboard generator linked to the electric motor battery. It sounds like unlimited range, and that’s one of the factors Ram wants to tackle.

"Everybody can throw down a big range, etc. OK, do it while towing with payload. That is what we're trying to drive home.” - Bob Broderdorf, Ram's recent global operations officer before being promoted to head of Jeep North America

As it currently stands, the electric version of the 1500 pickup will offer a standard 168-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Stellantis is currently releasing two versions of powertrains, Standard Output (S.O.) and High Output (H.O.). It’s been all but confirmed that this is the case for the Ram 1500 REV. The standard powertrain is said to have an all-electric range (AER) of up to 350 miles, whereas consumers can opt-in for an optional 229-kWh battery pack with an AER of 500 miles. That’s not all the Ram electric pickup truck is supposed to offer, though.

Pushing the capabilities of BEVs to new levels, the Ram 1500 REV is said to be capable of 800-volt DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. This kind of power can add up to 110 miles of range to the BEV in just 10 minutes. It’s a real game-changer. Equipped with an automatic wheel-end disconnect and an electronic-locking rear differential, the 1500 REV offers new off-road capabilities with dual 250-kilowatt electric drive modules (EDMs) that combines the motor, gearbox, and inverter to maximize performance on various types of terrain.

The Ram 1500 REV is also one of the first to be built on the STLA Frame platform. Stellantis is developing new platforms called STLA Platforms for their future models. There are a total of four – Small, Medium, Large, and Frame. The 2025 Ram 1500 REV is built on the all-new STLA Frame, designed specifically for full-size electric vehicle. This wouldn’t be the first case of a model using an STLA Platform, though, seeing as how the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT BEV is built on the STLA Large Platform, and so will the Wagoneer S.

Good news is consumers won’t have to wait much longer. As we said, the 2025 Ram 1500 REV is set for release early next year (2025).
Could Wireless Charging for BEVs be the Next Step?

Wireless charging. What was thought once impossible for devices like smartphones became a reality several years ago. It was more or less a power bank that consumers could place a smartphone onto and then it just recharged like magic. It took some time to become practical – it was more of a novelty after all – and even longer for the auto market to catch up. Now, many cars are offering wireless charging capabilities for one or two devices, and that begs the next question. When can we wireless charge our cars?

The need to stop and recharge a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) is one of the main issues a lot of would be BEV buyers run into. Heck, I want to get an electric car, and just this weekend I had the chance to rent one. I decided not to, because I didn’t want to get stranded during my upcoming two hour road trip. And you know what? During that whole time, I didn’t see one single exit with a BEV charging station. That’s the same scenario many Americans think about when it comes to buying a BEV.

Joint venture IONNA wants to change that by building a new nationwide BEV charging network across America. City infrastructure and highways need to make room for BEV charging stations or change altogether if BEVs become more practical. And when people buy more BEVs, there’s still the problem of space and vacancy. Like finding a line of port-a-potties that are all occupied when you really gotta go, finding a charging station filled up when your BEV is on low will be pretty frustrating. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) estimates we will need 182,000 DC fast chargers by 2030, and not even IONNA plans to match that number, attempting to deploy only 30,000 BEV chargers by this summer…which is pretty much over. Where are all the charging stations?

A possible solution could be wireless charging pads. The Kia Corp was in talks with its parent group Hyundai at one point. Overseas, China actually has an entire solar highway that can double as a wireless charging panel to recharge vehicles driving along its roads. Why America hasn’t caught onto this is anyone’s guess, but it could be a great way to update highway infrastructure and reduce the need for a number of charging stations. Even if that was possible, no BEVs come from the factory with built-in wireless charging installed for battery packs at the moment. It would be like putting an egg before the chicken – nothing’s going to happen.

It’s not unheard of, though. Researchers at Oakridge National Laboratory in Tennessee have been developing high-speed wireless chargers for BEVs. Earlier this year, Volkswagen demonstrated a new wireless charger for a Porsche Taycan that set a new power density record. Hyundai is also testing wireless charging in Korea with technology it licensed from WiTricity. Although the testing is happening overseas, WiTricity is an American company based in Watertown, Massachusetts, and currently holds the patents for wireless charging of BEVs. Currently working towards commercialization of this technology to help convert more buyers from ICE vehicles to BEVs, WiTricity is already planning perfect ways to implement this technology and show how effective wireless charging can be.

"We are working with a large number of fleets and we have deployed the first units…Return-to-depot fleets are an excellent use case for wireless. It's touchless." He said school buses, because they sit idle most of the day, are a natural fit for wireless charging.” - Pamposh Zutshi, vice president of product at wireless charging manufacturer WiTricity

Wireless charging pads could be the next practical step for BEV charging – why not make an entire parking lot that can double as a charging pad? That’s the kind of development that could change everything. Want to keep up with cool automotive technology?
Driver Assistance Systems Aren't as Safe as We Think

Driver assistance systems are great, aren’t they? Cars today can alert drivers to other drivers in their blind spot, help them keep centered in their driving lane, provide assistance during long drives on the highway, and even parallel park, the bane of most drivers living in the city. So, why is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) getting all fussy about them? Apparently, according to a study IIHS recently conducted, they’re not as safe as they seem.

This can’t be, right? Self-driving cars are becoming an ever closer reality as more self-driving technology continues to become more advanced. We’re no way near level 5 autonomy on a commercial scale, but many automakers are trying to get there. Right now, we have level 3 autonomy as the most popular feature to give drivers more freedom on the road. The Kia Corp has Highway Driving Assist, Mitsubishi Motors has the MI-PILOT driving system, and Volvo has the Pilot Assist System. All of these help drivers navigate the highway in various traffic conditions to make long drives a little more bearable.

According to two studies by IIHS, that’s not always the case. Ian Reagan, IIHS senior research scientist, drove a used 2017 Volvo S90 sedan with Pilot Assist alongside many other volunteers driving other vehicles with similar features. Over the course of three years, Reagan covered more than 12,000 miles with Pilot Assist active over the course of three years to collect data on how effective such driving systems are. Out of nearly 4000 attention-related warnings the system recognized and alerted the driver of, 72 of those instances were ignored. Drivers did not respond quickly enough to prevent an incident in response to the warning.

What does this mean? Even though such assistance systems are in place, they’re not a replacement for responsible driving. Well, duh. It’s level 3 autonomy, which means a driver still needs to be behind the wheel and actively paying attention to the road. Too many drivers forget about that fact and play on their phone, because hey, forward collision warning will chime in if they’re getting too close to the car in front of them. Many of the drivers had not used partial automation technology prior, but over the course of the study, they became more comfortable and allowed themselves to become distracted. They most likely assumed Pilot Assist would take care of any potential incidents.

"There is a need and importance for a really robust protocol that makes sure that the drivers are engaged in the driving task…There's this concern that drivers will become more complacent." – Reagan

Just like fully autonomous vehicles, certain regulations and rules need to be put in place for these driver assistance systems to be deemed safe. This will only lead to drivers thinking such systems “passed the test” and they’re safe when getting behind the wheel and using something like Pilot Assist on the highway. It also means they might be more inclined to take their eyes off the road. Although a little outdated, a 2006 study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that the risk of an auto incident increases exponentially in as little as 1.5 seconds of not paying attention. That’s not a lot, is it?

Until we have higher levels of automation that can remove the need of a human driver, we can’t just rely on driver assistance systems to do the heavy lifting. It doesn’t matter how many years of experience someone has behind the wheel – complacency can lead to disaster in no time at all.
Newest Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV Arrives

Jeep has grown to include PHEV options across the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and more of the Jeep catalog in the coming years. These Jeep rides run solely on electric energy and power as though they were a gasoline option, but instead are quiet and spare the environment around us. Even their SUV offerings that remain prestigious and affordable, they benefit from the flex the PHEV capabilities offer. Jeep delivers more customizable options for the catalog. Readers know the Jeep Wrangler and its many vehicles of the brand have turned buyers into “Jeepers” who see the beloved Jeep brand as something that takes fandom to new heights. Traveling across the country is something that almost goes without saying for Jeep enthusiasts.

Jeep Improving Their Reach (Cars and Jeepers alike)

With such long travel, saving money on driving would make sense. The options to help owners take on the savings they crave with their investment, use the eSave mode that can be used when the battery is low and these vehicles can switch to gasoline to power their way to a destination if needed. The Trailhawk trim for the 4xe option of these Jeep rides is exclusively an EV choice. The brand has done what few could to make the leap ahead to offer buyers a welcomed advancement in technology. Jeep is keeping the focus on what their rides, well-known for their off-road capabilities, while still influencing by way of EV performance. Other brands are playing catch-up to Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep and Dodge; a brand that is offering the industry first electric muscle car with the 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona.

Next Phase For Jeep In Electric Tech

Buyers have asked and now, albeit late to the party; gained the choices that maximize the selection and are just a start to the EVs that are being added to the catalog for Jeep. Expect by next decade or so to see every Jeep ride having a form of fuel-saving technology. That’s the goal and reality for those at the top of the decision making; not just for Jeep, but Stellantis as well. With the 4xe trim family growing, we foresee customers are majorly enthusiastic. Continuously stay up to date with company news from Jeep by checking in with us at NowCar.

Rivian Automotive and Lucid Motors to Release More Affordable BEVs

There are two things stopping consumers from buying into battery-electric vehicles (BEVs): (1) the fear of having nowhere to recharge, and (2) the price. Many automakers are trying to fix the first problem. The BMW Group, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, Stellantis NV, and Toyota have invested in the joint venture IONNA to build a new nationwide BEV charging network. So, what about the price? The cost to produce BEV batteries is starting to drop, and that will indeed be reflected in how much it costs to buy a BEV. Startups Rivian and Lucid Motor are capitalizing on that to win over the new wave of green consumers entering the market.

BEV startup Rivian is doing super well since it released the RT1 electric pickup truck. Heck, Rivian hit the top of the charts during the 2023 Consumer Reports Auto Survey. It rated better than Tesla, way better. Riding that success, Rivian Automotive has revealed more affordable models are being added to its lineup. Joining the RT1 electric pickup truck is the R1S.

Announced in June 2024, the R1S electric crossover finally got some light shined on it. With an electric motor powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries, Rivian claims these new batteries can provide an all-electric range (AER) of 270 miles. Equipped with a standard four-motor layout - two in the front and two in the rear – the R1S is said to be able to generate a combined 835 horsepower. However, the MSRP for the base model was looking at $77,700 (before shipping).

Doesn’t sound very affordable. That’s why Rivian is adding the midsize R2 crossover to its lineup in 2026, followed by the R3 hatchback later in the decade. For the R2 crossover, the automaker expects a price of around $45,000 (before shipping). Rivian also says the R3 hatchback will be even lower, although no definite number has been released. With the Rt1 pickup truck and R1S crossover already hitting a constant rate of sales, Rivian is making more than enough money on its first two successes to cut costs on new models.

Lucid Motors is also basking in the glory, already working on the launch of its second vehicle. The Lucid Air Dream Edition has already launched, and journalists are already slavering over the BEV. Reporting a total AER of 471 miles, the Lucid Air Dream Edition can generate a full 1111 horsepower. That makes it the most powerful and fastest vehicle on the market. Able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in as little as 2.5 seconds and cover a quarter-mile time in 9.9 seconds, this is the kind of BEV sports car fans are after. It costs about $69,900 (before shipping) to start.

Just like Rivian Automotive, Lucid Motors is also planning the launch of a new vehicle, the Gravity large crossover. This model isn’t looking any cheaper, starting around $8000 (before shipping). However, two new models are also on the horizon – a midsized vehicle starting at $48,000 (before shipping) and a large sedan said to be not more than $9000 (before shipping). Now that’s something we’d really like to see. Hopefully, Lucid Motors can put their money where their mouth is, because that’s a pretty outrageous claim.

More startups are also starting to pop up with new BEVs, but no prices have yet to be released. Either way, the major players of the auto industry are going to have a lot of competition as we get ever closer to 2030. It’s time to cut costs and make BEVs more affordable. Interested?
HMG Brings New Smart City Vision to World Smart City Expo 2024

The World Smart City Expo (WSCE) 2024 is taking place this week, September 3–5, 2024 at KINTEX in Korea. Known as the largest Smart City-related technology exhibition in Asia, more than 20000 visitors from 60 countries and 200 cities gather together to discuss concepts and solutions for the world of tomorrow – a Smart City. We’ve heard a concept like this before from the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG). Back in 2022, during the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show, HMG proposed its first Smart City Concept.

A Smart City is a new take on city infrastructure that doesn’t just benefit people but also the planet. Described as a city type where people can stroll amidst abundant greenery, there’s a harmony that can be found between city living and nature. For their exhibit, HMG has a 900-square-meter hall with all kinds of concepts where visitors can get a glimpse of its smart city vision. HMG broke it down into three categories: Transportation, Logistics and Robotics, and Energy and Infrastructure.

The Transportation category is all about personal mobility and making it possible for everyone, able-bodied or not, can travel and get around. This ranges from a massive public transportation system, a SPACE-Mobility public system designed to optimize space and provide customized seats for a variety of conditions, including wheelchairs, micro-mobility devices, pets, etc. to a personal mobility platform called DICE (Digital Curated Experience) that can provide consumers with customized services curated by artificial intelligence (AI) through a three-sided display like VR. The most outrageous bit would be the S-A2 next-generation airframe for personal urban air mobility by Supernal, the HMG subsidiary responsible for its advanced air mobility (AAM) projects.

Logistics and Robotics is more about purpose-built vehicles, now called “Platform-Beyond Vehicles” (PBVs) and designed by Kia, also previously called “Platform-Based Vehicles”. This wouldn’t be the first mention of PBVs by HMG or Kia. The Kia Corp launched the E-FOREST PBV production facility in 2022 and revealed the first test PBV, the Niro Plus robotaxi in the same year. “Platform-Beyond Vehicles” uses EasySwap technology to give every vehicle the ability to turn into an office, luxury limousine, camper, etc. In January 2024, Kia entered into a partnership with Uber to test its PV5 PBV, because of course, PBVs can also be turned into vehicles customized for ride-hailing. The PBV during the exhibit was the CityPod, an unmanned, large logistics mobility device that can be used for public transportation, waste transportation, hydrogen energy transportation, and industrial raw materials transportation.

This part of the exhibit also placed a focus on robotics. HMG deployed the first smart building in Seoul, Korea, utilizing the DAL-e Delivery Robot, Smart Parking Control System and Automatic Charging Robot (ACR), and a Parking Robot that was also on display during the exhibit.
The New Nissan Lineup is Getting Some Changes

Nissan entered into a strategic alliance with Renault in 1999, and Mitsubishi joined in 2016. Sharing resources, the new Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance is designing new platforms for future battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Slowly but surely, one of the automakers are going to blow up with a new lineup of electrified models, and it seems like Nissan is the first to take the lead. New platforms and multiple powertrains will introduce a change to select gasoline engines while releasing new BEVs. Here’s a look at the changes coming to the Nissan product line.

New BEVS and Updates

The Nissan Ariya is the second BEV from the automaker and will get a refresh for the 2026 model year. Featuring a twin-motor system, it is 50 percent faster to react to a variety of road conditions. A yet unnamed compact crossover based on the CMF-EV platform is planned for release in late 2027. Also getting an update is the Nissan Leaf, turning into a single-motor crossover coupe in 2025. Nissan also has an electric sedan in the works, featuring a sloped rear window, a long wheelbase and waistline, and a newly designed grille. Said to be a performance sports BEV, we’re really looking forward to that one.

Gasoline Model Changes

Nissan has a full-size pickup truck called the Titan, but it has been discontinued. The mid-size pickup truck, the Nissan Frontier, has some years left in it, and is getting a refresh for a more utility and rugged look starting with the 2025 model year. Another refresh will come three years later during the first half of 2028. The Nissan Armada is a thirst SUV powered by a V8 and will switch it out for a more efficient 425-HP twin-turbocharged V6 engine, followed by a new, more rugged “Range Rover-esque” Armada.

The Nissan Kicks will be releasing a second generation with more power, SUV-like exterior styling, and all-wheel drive capability. Another model being discontinued, for the North American market at least, is the “Godzilla” GT-R. There is talk of a high-performance electric car concept for the resurrection of the GT-R, but nothing confirmed. The Nissan Z is also getting a refresh in 2027. Lastly, the Nissan Versa will be discontinued by late spring 2025.

New Electrified Options

The Nissan Pathfinder is getting a small refresh for late 2025 as well, but an all-electric version of the midsize crossover will eventually make its debut in late 2028. It won’t be alone. The Nissan Murano is also a midsize crossover and plans to release its next-generation model early next year (2025). That next generation will bring a hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) variant with it. Another model will debut Nissan's e-Power series hybrid technology in the U.S. – the fourth-generation Rogue is planned to release in early 2027 with a new off-road trim level and a PHEV very reminiscent of the Ram Truck Ramcharger model. The new Rogue PHEV will come with a battery-powered electric motor to turn the wheels while a gasoline engine charges the battery.

The gasoline-powered Altima is being discontinued, and said to be replaced with a PHEV variant model in 2026 and onward. Joining it will be the redesigned Sentra for 2025. Rumor has it that a hybrid model may also be released, but no confirmation just yet.

This is the current outlook for the Nissan lineup. Some are changing, some are getting electrified, and some new options will be released altogether.
The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT BEV is the Muscle Car of the Future

The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT isn’t just a new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) by Dodge. It’s a new muscle car by Dodge, and the automaker is pretty confident about attracting new consumers for the Dodge Charger BEV. A few years back, Dodge introduced its new electrified lineup, eMuscle, and dipped its toes into the water with the Dodge Hornet plug-in hybrid. Not a true eMuscle model, still donning the SRT double slash logo, but this year (2024), the Charger Daytona SRT BEV was unveiled, with the Fratzog logo situated in the front fascia, and boasting 496 horsepower as the standard. It truly is the future of Dodge muscle cars.

Let’s take a look at STLA platforms. The new underpinning of all future models coming from Stellantis, every BEV and new model will be situated on an STLA platform, starting with the STLA Large platform. And yes, the new Charger Daytona SRT is built on the STLA Large platform, as is the new generation of the all-gasoline Dodge Charger. Announced to come in four sizes - Small, Medium, Large, and Frame – the STLA Large platform is designed for class D- and E-vehicle segments. The flexibility of STLA platforms is the main selling point of these new platforms, because not only will they be able to cover a large spectrum of automobiles, but they will also make technologies like the STLA SmartCockpit easier to integrate into a vehicle.

We won’t delve too deep into the SmartCockpit in this article, but just know it’s a part of Stellantis connected services to turn interior cabins into mobile, digital lounges in the coming years. As for the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT BEV, Dodge brand's new CEO, Matt McAlear, sees a bright future for eMuscle, starting with the Charger Daytona. Even though not all fans are pleased about the change, Dodge still has a strong chance of converting consumers into BEV buyers.

“Some are [ready to convert and] some aren't…[however, Dodge has] the youngest demographic in the mainstream industry, and they have the highest propensity to adopt [an] electric [vehicle]… If there wasn't debate, if there wasn't consternation, I think I'd be more worried.” – McAlear.

Dodge also has a new game plan to bring in new BEV consumers. Alongside the Charger Daytona SRT BEV, the new generation of the Charger was revealed with two new gasoline options – a 420-horsepower Dodge Charger SIXPACK Standard Output (S.O.) and a 550-horsepower Dodge Charger SIXPACK High Output (H.O.). So, yes, gasoline-powered Dodge models will still be on the lot, but don’t expect to find many. Dodge will only have about 2000 units on a lot at any given time. In other words, there will be a lot more BEV units to purchase. It sounds a little like the automaker will be strong arming consumers to buy a BEV, but if it works, it works.

Consumers today may be wary about buying a BEV due to the lack of BEV chargers there are, but more and more apps are making it easier to find an available charging station. There’s also the joint venture IONNA with plans to create a new nationwide charging network right here in the U.S. It may take a few years, but consumers won’t have as much trouble finding a place to charge up. To get a jump start, consumers can also join the Stellantis Free2move Charge movement and get a BEV charger installed in their home, or free charging credits.

Self-Driving Cars Are Gearing Up

The six levels of autonomy for self-driving cars is a complicated issue. So many automakers claim level 4 autonomy will be coming out for their next model lineup, and then keep in the darkness dim-lit tunnel of level 3. It’s worthwhile to note that a lot of these level 3 autonomy features weren’t around a decade or two ago, but where are all the self-driving cars? Mostly commercial services that aren’t hitting any bumps in its development.

A major issue to automakers launching self-driving vehicles to the average consumer for retail is the lack of federal answers. In 2019, the self-driving Waymo took on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and lost, when it came to getting certified as an autonomous vehicle to enter the market. Aurora Innovation and again Waymo in January 2023 petitioned the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to weigh in on the matter, but their agency hasn’t responded. The NHTSA also blocks a lot of would be robotaxi companies, and the main reason is usually because there are no real standards or regulations set in stone for autonomous vehicles.

"Until we get those standards out there, I think larger deployments are tough…It'll happen, but it's challenging for all the stakeholders, including the general public." - Jeffrey Wishart, an Arizona State University professor and vice president of innovation at the Arizona Commerce Authority

It’s worth it to admit that yes, there have been some crashes and technical setbacks hitting the news lately. Autonomous car technology is not an exact science. Until we have artificial intelligence that can think like a person, a self-driving car may never be as safe as a responsible human driver. The push to develop self-driving vehicles is still strong but gets fuzzier the closer a company gets to a working model. That’s why every company should work out all the kinks and make sure the technology is always up-to-date with the latest features so when autonomous vehicles finally get the green light, these companies will be ready to deploy their vehicles into the auto market.

When that happens, it’s not like there will be a lack of companies to choose from. Aside from Alphabet subsidiary Waymo planning an expansion of its self-driving service to extend into the San Francisco Bay Area, Amazon subsidiary Zoox has announced a commercial service launch in Las Vegas is planned for the end of 2024, and three autonomous trucking companies — Kodiak Robotics, Aurora Innovation, and Gatik Inc. – expect to begin commercial service by the end of the year as well. Companies aren’t lacking or slow to move, but they aren’t hitting the auto market any time soon.

If and when they do, the auto industry will never be the same. Back in college, if someone didn’t want to write their paper, they may pay someone to do it. Now, give ChatGPT a word prompt and rewrite it in your voice. That’s how simple and easy it should be to operate a self-driving autonomous vehicles.

Dodge is Confident About Attracting Consumers for Dodge Charger Daytona BEV

In March 2024, Dodge finally released the vehicle we’ve all been waiting for: the 2025 next generation of the Dodge Charger, available as a gasoline option and the Charger Daytona SRT electric model. We knew it was coming. Dodge announced the eMuscle lineup back in February 2019, and the first plug-in hybrid vehicle by Dodge launched in 2023 with the Dodge Hornet. It was one of three electrified eMuscle models set for production, and now that the second model is out, Dodge has a new challenge to face - converting muscle car enthusiasts into zero-emission all-electric consumers.

Now that the release of the Dodge Charger Daytona battery-electric vehicle (BEV) is nearing, Dodge wants to remind consumers that this is a Dodge muscle car through and through. With a little video clip of the Charger Daytona SRT BEV driving around, you can hear the modified exhaust system. A patent-pending Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, this system was created for the electric Dodge Charger specifically.

Pricing may also help convert some buyers. The 670 horsepower Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack trim starts at $75,185 (plus destination fee). That’s 14 percent less than what the gas-guzzling 2023 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Jailbreak went for. Those models were fun and all, but the SRT Hellcat won’t go anywhere close to the distance of an electric Dodge. Maybe the automaker should make a Jailbreak program. If a consumer is going to spend ¾ of $100k on a garmble, they may as well be able to get it custom-made.

Said to be released in two trims only, the Scat Pack and R/T trims, consumers can expect mower power in the latter. From the factory, the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T BEV is able to generate 496 horsepower, but Dodge Direct Connection can add modules to increase that all the way to 670 horsepower. There are even rumors about the 761 HP Dodge Banshee, but that one is harder to pin down. Regardless, Dodge CEO Matt McAlear thinks the all-electric Dodge Charger is enough to convert some muscle car owners and lure in new consumers intrigued by concept of an electric muscle car.

"We never went after Camaro and Mustang from a pony car standpoint, we went out with muscle cars and straight-line performance…That's where we win. No one else is bringing anything like this to market, so that's when we can stand out. That's when our fans recognize that we're helping them show off their personalities and what they want to be."- McAlear told Automotive News

The Dodge Charger Daytona BEV is able to drift, do doughnuts, and burn rubber just like any of its gasoline predecessors. If Dodge can make an electric muscle car this good, why not get speed while also helping to save the environment with zero carbon emissions? Besides, let’s face it. The average consumer wasn’t buying an SRT 392 HEMI® or SRT Hellcat Dodge Charger model. Most just want a Dodge vehicle that looks and feels good to drive, and maybe 500 horsepower max. That’s why the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T trim will be perfect for converting consumers.

Interested in an electric Dodge Charger? Keep up with us on NowCar social media to find out when the Charger Daytona SRT BEV is available.

Nissan Reintroduces MyRoom Camper

#VanLife seems like a fad that comes and goes. For those that make a habit of #VanLife to get off the grid or reconnect with nature, there are automakers out there that can make the DIY project of transforming a van into a camper a little easier. Especially if that automaker is Nissan. Their latest Caravan MyRoom model hit the market recently (2024), and it’s a little hybrid between RV and hotel room – just no kitchen or toilet.

Hey, what says “reconnect with nature” than using a tree as an outpost? The MyRoom may not have water storage on board, but this caravan does offer a lot. Outfitted with space-enhancing features like a clean-folding Murphy bed and sliding table/workstation, the interior of MyRoom feels like a staycation getaway to a spa or lounge with a mix of comfort and privacy in a personal space on wheels. A retractable wraparound curtain also separates the MyRoom cabin from the van cockpit for a more intimate feel for those that just want to curl up and not have a view of the outside world for a true getaway feeling.

MyRoom first released in 2022, but it was more like a hotel room filled with sofas and mattresses. This time around, it’s a lot more spacious while still keeping the woodgrain paneling to cover the walls, floor, and central headliner. In place of space-consuming sofas is a multipurpose second-row bench that can switch between front- and rear-facing modes to replace swivel seats. It makes for a great lounge space that’s also soft and comfy like a sofa, and it lays completely flat for when it’s time to get some rest and relaxation.

Counting this couch, there are actually three options for sleeping. There is the aforementioned Murphy bed, a staple for people who want a place to sleep but also save some room. Trimmed in the same woodgrain paneling as the rest of the cabin, you wouldn’t even notice the Murphy bed if a new comer to the interior cabin. If a Murphy bed still feels like a little much, there is also a multi-piece folding mattress that can be mounted atop wall-integrated ledges for storage.

We also mentioned that sliding table and workstation. Sidewall slots have been installed along the length of the cabin to give support to and mobility to a sliding table. Depending on where you put it in reference to the sofa, it can be a dining table, a desk, or even a table bed for some late night snacking or gaming. However, who takes a camper into the great outdoors to be stuck inside playing computer games? MyRoom skips RV staples like kitchen and bathroom equipment to save on space, but there is some form of electrical power if you need some entertainment that’s battery-powered thanks to the Portable Battery from Leaf" power station. An all-in-one rechargeable power station that provides 100-V AC power for plugging in appliances and electronics, this mobile space is shaping up to be a nice experience.

Chevrolet Announces 1064HP 2025 Corvette ZR1

We haven’t talked about Chevrolet in a while, and now is the perfect time to talk about it. Known for high-performance sports cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks, Chevrolet has a little something for every consumer. With the shift of the auto market towards electric vehicles, we see less vehicles reporting high numbers in horsepower. Chevrolet answered that challenge and produced the fastest and most powerful Chevrolet Corvette today. It’s the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1!

Powered by a 5.5L, twin-turbocharged DOHC flat-plane crank V8 engine, also known as the LT7, this powertrain is capable of generating 1,064 horsepower and 828 lb-ft. This officially makes the V8 engine in the 2025 Corvette ZR1 is the most powerful V8 ever produced in America that comes as a factory setting. In turn, that makes the ZR1 the only Chevy Corvette to come straight from the factory and be this powerful. Able to run a quarter mile in a GM-estimated sub-10-seconds, that’s pretty darn fast.

Not all engines are the same. The LT7 started out as a forced induction engine and then paired with the 5.5-liter flat-plane engine design. Because of this, a lot of new parts were needed, including head castings with unique ports, a larger combustion chamber, and a completely new intake system tuned for twin turbochargers. The forced induction engine was optimized with valve train timing and a higher exhaust temperature that enabled the installment of exhaust valves. A new CNC machined combustion chamber, exhaust, and intake ports were produced specifically for the LT7. It’s all pretty unique.

Sports cars like the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 have iconic features that make it easy to identify as a Chevy Corvette. Built with a sleeker body with lower drag and a small spoiler, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires wrap 20-inch front, and 21-inch rear wheels, and specific aerodynamic and cooling changes made into the overall design of the car, such as a flow-through hood. This helps more air enter the chamber with an air induction vent at the front of the car that enters the intercooler heat exchanger before entering the combustion chamber. Carbon fiber side profile air ducts help with integrated brake cooling by channeling clean, cool air through ducts and cooling the rear brakes. Really all kinds of ducts with a unique fresh air intake duct to the ZR1 that intakes air to keep the engine cool under all that pressure.

1,064 horsepower is a lot of power for a Corvette, and a powertrain like this also needs some powerful brakes for keeping the Chevy in control. Again, unique to the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, this brake system is made up of large rotors in the front and rear of the car, measuring up to 15.7-inch in diameter and 15.4-inch in diameter, respectively. Another record, this brake system is also the largest brake system ever equipped on a Corvette.

For the 2025 Corvette lineup, new colors have been added to the roster of choices, including Competition Yellow, Hysteria Purple, and Sebring Orange. Paying homage to the ZR1’s signature color cue, Edge Blue is one of the four finishes available for the wheel design. Inside, unique ZR1 badging can be found on an interior plaque, the sill plates, and the steering wheel. The upholstery comes with a new finishing stitch pattern for the doors, again, specific to the ZR1. Also paying respect to the automaker’s history, a boost gauge denoting the first factory turbocharged Corvette in the nameplate’s history is also found in the cockpit of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

The powerful Corvette ZR1 will enter production in 2025. No release date scheduled just yet, and we’re waiting on a price, but 2025 is still several months away. You can keep an eye on the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and other Chevrolet updates when you follow us on NowCar social media.

Ram Truck is Discontinuing the 1500 Classic

Why must all good things come to an end? When the newest and current generation of the Ram 1500 debuted at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, the pickup truck had more off-road capability and designed to be more of a lifestyle vehicle. This worried Ram pickup truck lovers that their favorite brand was putting an end to the classic work truck Ram Truck is known for. The automaker kept the older generation of the Ram 1500 around, known as the Ram Classic. According to recent news from the Ram CEO, the Classic is coming to an end sooner than thought.

Christine Feuell, the new CEO of Ram Truck since June 2024 claimed that the run of the Ram 1500 Classic will conclude at the end of 2024. As automakers try to make their vehicles safer to drive, advanced safety features such as Lane Keep Assist, Parallel and Perpendicular Park-Assist with Stop and Go, a Surround-view camera system, Blind-Spot and Cross-Path Detection, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go are all available features on the 2024 Ram 1500 not found on the 2024 Ram 1500 Classic. Even so, the Ram 1500 Classic does have its charm.

Regardless of whichever Ram 1500 a consumer buys, both come standard with a 3.6-liter V6 – optimized with eTorque in the 1500, with variable valve timing in the 1500 Classic – able to generate 305 horsepower for both designs. The Ram 1500 generates 273 lb-ft of torque, whereas the Ram 1500 Classic generates 269 lb-ft of torque. The difference in performance is barely noticeable.

The Ram 1500 has access to a lot of different configurations, but the Ram 1500 Classic gets right to the point. Consumers have the choice of the Tradesman trim or the Warlock trim. The Tradesman can be configured with Crew Cab either a 5’7” truck bed or a 6’4” bed box, or a Quad Cab with a 6’4” truck bed. If choosing the Warlock, the configurations available are a Crew Cab with a 5’7” truck bed or a Quad Cab with a 6’4” truck bed. Able to handle a a maximum payload capacity of 1810 pounds when properly equipped and a towing capacity of 10,520 pounds when properly equipped, the Ram 1500 Classic lives up to the work truck name.

Many standard features are shared between the Ram 1500 and the 1500 Classic, such as heated exterior mirrors, automatic headlamps, a rear fixed-window, and tinted glass windows and windshield. Sure, the Ram 1500 has more LEDs, but the Ram 1500 Classic Warlock still comes with Bi-Function Halogen Projector Headlamps. More focused on performance, the only options for seating are a 40/20/40 split bench seat in Heavy-Duty Vinyl or a rear 60/40 split folding seat and manually adjustable driver and front passenger seats trimmed in cloth. The Warlock gets a little more refined with premium-cloth trimmed bucket seats for the driver and front passenger, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic a/c, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a power sunroof.

Regardless, Christine Feuell has this to say to Automotive News, “It has been a workhorse for a long time, [but] there's a big difference between the two trucks and the technology."

If a simple work truck is your thing, don’t miss out on the Ram 1500 Classic while supplies last. You can shop for the Ram 1500 Classic and other Ram pickup trucks when you shop for a new car online with NowCar.

2024 J.D. Power APEAL Study Rankings

When it comes to the auto market, the options for a new car seem endless. To cut through the clutter and help consumers make a decision, organizations will put together competitions or studies to find the best vehicles available in the market today. One of those organizations is J.D. Power. Putting together annual studies for different purposes, J.D. Power recently released the results of its 2024 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. There were some outstanding brands this year, with a lot of high-ranking vehicles in various segments.

J.D. Power conducted the 2024 APEAL Study from July 2023 to May 2024, and was based on the data on vehicles registered from April 2023 through February 2024. Surveys were sent out to owners of new 2024 model-year vehicles after 90 days of ownership. The surveys were designed to rate their vehicles based on 37 attributes, covering design, performance, safety, usability, comfort, perceived quality, infotainment systems, the APEAL Study does exactly what it sounds like. It ranks vehicles based on the “appeal” to the consumer. The results for the 2024 J.D. Power APEAL Study comes from a collection of responses from 99,144 owners that contributed with their survey answers. It’s a nice sample of the new car owner population, and if all these people agree on a vehicle brand, it can help point new vehicle buyers in the right direction.

Based on the study, even though battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) are still a concept that can get consumers paranoid about not being able to find a charging station, the market is slowly showing a growing interest. Rated on a 1,000-point scale, BEVs earned an overall score of 849 this year. Returning to the top three ranked vehicles again this year, Ram was ranked as the second-highest automaker in the mass-market vehicle category with a score of 854. Leading Stellantis with off-road automaker Jeep®, the Ram 1500 also came in second for the Large Light Duty Pickup segment, whereas the Jeep Wagoneer was the highest ranked in the Large SUV segment.

The Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), umbrella group of the Kia Corp got great news this year with many Kia models being the highest ranked in their respective segment. This follows a tradition of Kia always earning highest ranked awards, holding the title for the most awarded Brand in history of the J.D. Power APEAL Study. During the 2024 J.D. Power APEAL Study, the Kia K5 was ranked the highest in the Midsize Car segment, the Kia Forte was ranked the highest in the Compact Car segment, the Kia EV9 was ranked the highest in the Upper Midsize SUV segment, the Kia EV6 was the highest ranked for the Compact SUV segment, and the Kia Carnival was ranked the highest for the minivan segment, although it’s more like an MPV – Multi-Purpose Vehicle. Kia was the third highest-ranked brand in the 2024 J.D. Power APEAL Study with a score of 853 points.

Overall, the APEAL Study uses a Net Promotor Score® to also determine the rankings for different vehicles and their brand. This year saw a 38 point higher score, meaning more owners will more than likely promote their vehicle and recommend it to friends and family, growing the popularity of a vehicle by word of mouth. The Promotor Score also gave insight into the long-term effect that a highly appealing vehicle would have on the current marketplace. The 2024 J.D. Power APEAL Study put the spotlight on some of the highest ranked brands in the market, and you can get a new Kia, new Ram 1500 pickup truck, or a new Jeep Wagoneer when you buy a car online with NowCar.

The Three Dodge eMuscle Models We Know Of So Far

In 2021, Dodge first announced its new eMuscle lineup with a fancy new logo, the Fratzog. At the time, only two models were definite – the Dodge Hornet and the Daytona SRT. Both electrified options, the Hornet would be a plug-in hybrid, whereas the Daytona SRT would be the first Dodge battery-electric vehicle (BEV). The Dodge Hornet debuted first in 2022 and was released for the 2023 model year, followed by the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT BEV debuted in March 2024. Every time one of these models arise, the mysterious “Banshee” is close behind. Thanks to Mopar Insiders, we might finally have more information on what this means for the Dodge eMuscle lineup.

The Dodge Hornet PHEV

The first of the bunch, the Dodge Hornet was actually first released as an all-gasoline option. Set up with two trims, the GT and GT Plus, the Dodge Hornet GT was powered by a 2.0L Hurricane4 Turbo engine, able to generate 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It wasn’t until later in the year that Dodge finally revealed the Dodge Hornet plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with two trims – the R/T and R/T Plus, powered by a 1.3-liter I4 Turbo PHEV engine, able to generate 288 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The automaker wasn’t ready to let go of their gasoline options, and that became obvious when the next generation of the Dodge Charger was released alongside the Daytona SRT BEV.

The Charger Daytona SRT BEV

First a concept in a 2022, we heard a lot about the Charger Daytona SRT BEV and what it could offer. Durign the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, we even learned about the many new configuration options the Charger Daytona SRT BEV would offer. At release, there are two models – the Scat Pack and the R/T. Powered by a dual electric drive module (EDM), the Scat Pack came with a 250 kW able to generate 335 horsepower.

However, this is where things get a little tricky. The specs are different now, but back then, there were other power options with Dodge Direct Connection eStage 1 and eStage 2. This will be important later. The concept originally proposed a 340 kW model and a 440 kW model. The 340 kW model has the potential to generate up to 455 horsepower, but eStage 1 could increase the power output to 370 kW (495 horsepower), and eStage 2 would bring it up to 400 kw (535 horsepower). The 440 kW electric motor, would able to generate 590 horsepower with eStage 1, and up to 470 kW (630 horsepower) with eStage 2. The mysterious banshee has a power output of 500 kW, or 670 horsepower.

The Banshee

It’s unclear if the Banshee will be its own third Fratzog model or if it will be another trim of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT BEV. According to Mopar Insiders, the Banshee will be a two-door model, which makes us think it will be a new model on its own, possibly the replacement for the Dodge Challenger (now discontinued). Additionally, the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT BEV comes with a dual EDM, but sources say the Banshee will come with a tri-motor system. The only other model in the Stellantis portfolio with three EDMS is the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, able to generate a combined output of 761 horsepower and 995 lb-ft of torque. Take Direct Connection eStage 1, and the Banshee could 1,072 horsepower, or even 1,336 horsepower with eStage 2. That is some serious power, and a true testament to the Dodge//SRT we know and love.

Right now, it’s a lot of speculation, but the closer we get to the release of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT BEV in 2025, the more we should know about the Banshee. Follow along with us on NowCar social media for more information.

A New Landscape For Jeep Gladiator Fans

Within a few months, we will see the 2025 Jeep Gladiator arrive. Stellantis might be changing some Jeep colors, but the brand is not done producing the world famous Jeep Gladiator pickup. New for the 2025 model year will be the entry of the 4xe trim that is promised to arrive during this model year run, but don’t sleep on the current 2024 model year. The 2024 Gladiator pickup truck came onto the scene with a new version of the brand's seven-slot grille, a 12.3-inch touchscreen and newly available power-adjustable front seats. Jeep has decided to add two more trims to the Gladiator for the 2024. These are the new top-tier trims the new Mojave X and Rubicon X. There are new packages coming as well this summer.

Join An Adventure In A New Jeep

The 2024 Jeep Gladiator carries a restyled version of Jeep's trademark seven-slot grille that was added along with the brother-version of the Gladiator, the flagship Wrangler mid-size SUV. Along with being a bit more slender this time around, the Gladiator carries a textured slots that is said to aid in improving engine cooling. With Jeep moving on from the optional diesel V6, buyers today have the the 285-horsepower V6 as the powertrain choice, that is, at least for this model year. What did they do inside the ride to switch it up?

More Changes Inside Expected?

The new Jeep Gladiator has added exterior changes. Customers will note the antenna is now added into the windshield unlike the old one that might get caught on branches out on the trail or damaged in hands-free car washes. Drivers have a bevy of new wheel designs selections, up to seven choices to further help revived up the truck that's begun its fourth model year. Jeep added a new soft-top now standard on the entry-level Sport trim.

Jeep has revised the Gladiator's dashboard. Not only does the ride carry the revised, narrow horizontal vents above the HVAC controls, but owners gain the new soft-touch materials on the instrument panel. We all love Jeep for their infusion of creating useful tools and adding Easter eggs, and the new 2024 Gladiator continues this theme with Jeep markings on all four corners that serve the four cardinal points on a compass. On top of the dash is a bracket for mounting nearly anything. The Mojave trim also gains a new steering wheel with thumb contours with bolstered seating upgrades.

Driving the New Jeep Gladiator Brings Joy And High-Tech

The game-changing 2024 Jeep Gladiator is excelling with perks of an interior that gains a new horizontal 12.3-inch touchscreen. The large display is standard on every trim and replaces the outgoing 7.0 and 8.4-inch touchscreens. The all-new infotainment screen supports the latest UConnect5 software, which comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new Jeep also has upgraded voice commands and backlight technology that's created to make the screen easier to see in direct light.

Keep in mind that these new EV plants and first look at the 4xe trim that began with the Wrangler 4xe was just the beginning for Stellantis. Continuously stay up to date with company news from Jeep and more Stellantis brands by checking in with us at NowCar.

Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks Band Together to Install 100 New BEV Charging Stations

IONNA might be ready to begin operations after building the IONNA HQ in North Carolina, but the joint venture between eight automakers to build a national BEV charging network is not alone. After Toyota joined IONNA to support the BMW Group, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, and Stellantis NV in their endeavor, more projects started popping up with third-party agreements. It would seem Mercedes-Benz may not be content with IONNA alone. Recently announced, Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks have teamed up to install fast electric vehicle chargers along Interstate 5, a highway that runs along the West Coast from Canada to Mexico.

They’re not alone. Ever since the House passed the biggest U.S. infrastructure package in decades $7.5 billion to help build a network of electric vehicle charging stations across the country, automakers have been working together to change city infrastructure for the impending influx of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Volkswagen and General Motors (another IONNA member) announced their plans to install more BEV charging stations a year before that. VW is working with Electrify America and are seeking to expand the U.S. network of electric vehicle charging stations, and General Motors is partnering up with construction firm Bechtel Corp to build fast-charging stations for electric vehicles across the United States.

This new development by Mercedes-Benz is just another drop in the bucket to fulfill the need for more BEV charging stations by 2030. There are currently 32,000 DC fast chargers available to the public as of now, IONNA plans to launch 30,000 more, VW has installed 120 with Electrify America and plans to install 180 more, and we’re not clear on how many General Motors has planned to develop. As for the new joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks, they’re aiming for 100 new BEV charging stations at Starbucks locations on the west coast. That’s a small part of the 2,000 more BEV charging hubs Mercedes-Benz wants to install around the globe. It’s still a fraction of the 182,000 DC fast chargers we’ll need by 2030, but that number is based on the theory that everyone will be owning a BEV by the time automakers have completed their end-of-the-decade business plans, including Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance 2030.

U.S. consumers are still not as quick to adopt the new electric craze as consumers overseas, especially in Europe. It’s always the same reason – finding a place to charge up is just too hectic, what if I end up stranded? We get it, that’s a scary concept. That’s one of the main reasons why consumers are more likely to buy a PHEV over a BEV, at the moment. A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) offers a choice between fueling up at the nearest gas station or charging up for a little extra juice. The recent offer from Free2move Charge and Stellantis is making it even easier by offering to install Level 2 chargers for new BEV consumers free of charge. But it still might not be enough when most BEV chargers today are hidden away in a superstore parking lot. Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks have something to say about that.

“[We] share an ambition to identify additional opportunities in key markets, including core urban areas, charging deserts, and other critical travel corridors.”

Starbucks is definitely found in more places than the city, and can be found off most highway exits these days. What better location to grow interest in BEVs than one that attracts more than 10 million consumers every day (globally)? It’s a pretty bold move, and as usual, the west coast is a little more forward thinking than the rest of the country. It’s a good place to start installing more BEV chargers.

What do you think? With all these new involvements, are you ready to make the change to an electric vehicle? Share your thoughts with us on NowCar social media. Or, buy a new BEV when you shop for a car online with NowCar.

Stellantis Offers Consumers New BEV Charging Solutions with Free2move Charge

Years ago, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA; now Stellantis) created a new subsidiary, Free2move. Focused on providing a source of mobility for all types of consumers, Free2move has expanded its reach towards electric mobility now that the auto market is becoming more electrified with plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Stellantis announced Dare Forward 2030, a business plan for the rest of the decade (2030), and so has every other major automaker and automobile group in the industry. With consumers still wary about going electric with the lack of BEV charging stations available, it’s a big risk, but many automakers are looking for ways to give consumers peace of mind. The latest solution comes from Stellantis and Free2Move Charge with a Home and Go Package.

”As we introduce our all-electric vehicles this year in the U.S., we want to ensure that our customers easily understand the charging options available to them before or upon purchase…Simply stated, included in the purchase of a Stellantis battery-electric vehicle is the ability choose a Free2move Level 2 charging unit or charging credits with a value of $600 to use at charging stations across the country, which are easily identifiable through the app.” - Mathilde Lheureux, head of energy and charge business unit

Changing city infrastructure to install more EV charging stations is growing in popularity. Back in 2019, VW and General Motors announced a joint venture with Electrify America to build more BEV charging stations across the nation. Jeep also worked with Electrify America to install Jeep 4xe charging stations at select trails in California and Utah. Kia also entered into a joint venture with Electrify America to offer 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of complimentary EV charging/energy to new Kia EV6 owners. In November 2021, the House passed a large U.S. infrastructure package, an investment of $7.5 billion to help build a network of electric vehicle charging stations across the country. All of this eventually sparked IONNA, the joint venture between BMW Group, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, Stellantis NV, and Toyota to build a nationwide BEV charging network.

Through Free2Move Charge, Stellantis is offering new BEV owners two new solutions for easily finding where to charge up nearby. The first solution is the Home Package, offering new Stellantis BEV consumers the installation of a Level 2 charging unit. All a consumer needs to do is easy-to-use installation portal on the Free2Move Charge website and select the Home Package option, answer some questions about the home or location for the charging station, and they’ll get a quote about the cost of installation. Then, schedule an appointment, and the preferred installer will take care of the necessary permits to get the owners connected and configured.

The second solution is the Go Package. For consumers who don’t have the option of getting a Level 2 charging unit installed, they can select charging credits ($600) as part of their BEV purchase that can be used at public charging stations (DC and Level 2 chargers) across the country - more than 75,000 charging networks. With the Free2move Charge app that can be downloaded via Apple and Google app stores, consumers will also be able to find the charging stations nearby, the best times to charge, and more.

Automakers are doing everything they can to help consumers make the switch to PHEVs and BEVs. Are you ready to go green? Buy a new BEV when you shop for a car online with NowCar.
